Resource Description Framework (RDF)
RDF stands for Resource description framework. We can define RDF as “RDF is a model/standard with the help of which we can define resources on the web”. The common people don’t understand RDF. It is developed to understand and read by computer.RDF is a base for managing metadata. With the help of RDF, we can exchange information between applications, operating systems, and computers on the internet. We can define any information of different web pages with the help of RDF.
History of RDF
There are different forefathers of RDF. The first who defined RDF was MCF a project started by Ramanthan V.Guha at apple computer between 1995 and 1997.he left the apple computer and joins Netscape and start working with Tim Brey on MCF to employ XML to produce first version of RDF. In 1999, RDF was defined by W3C to create RDF Data model by using XML.In2004, work on RDF is continued and produces a group of related specification. The W3C continued to work on RDF data model defined in 1999 and continue to develop new and improved specifications.W3C arrange a workshop in 2010 to discuss with their members the changes and improvements in RDF.

RDF Data Model
We can represent RDF data model with the help of 3 types of object
• Resource
• Property
• Statement
Resources
A resource can be anything or object that can be represented by uniform resource identifier. Resources contain properties like attributes or characteristics. Resource may be a picture, document, or paragraph on the internet.
Property
Property is used to describe resources that contain a name, relation, attribute and character of any object.
Property Value
Is the value of a property. A property value can be a resource.
Statement
A statement is a collaboration of a resource, property and property value. Properties of different resources can be explained by statements.
As pointed out by Professor C.B. Macpherson (Essential Reading Handout p.5), property can be seen as a political relation between people. A relation that is, unlike marriage or contracts, relatively hard to get into and leave. These can include new property such as a job or a group of friends. This creates a power relation between the people and the thing (between subject and an object). Therefore the statement ‘Property is a power relationship between people’ is true but it would be better if we portrayed it as a relationship between people with regard to things.
Conceptual schema at the conceptual level describes the structure and constraints for the whole database for a community of users. These uses a conceptual or an implementation data model.

According to the literature in very general and literal terms metadata is information about information. A more precise definition of metadata is “structured data about resources that can be used to help support a wide range of operations” (Day, 2011) While the term metadata is usually attributed to the digital environment some authors such as Jia Liu argue that the practice of utilizing metadata has roots further than the typical application allows. In the text Metadata and Its Applications in the Digital Library: Approaches and Practices Liu writes “…no one can deny that the philosophy behind metadata has existed for a very long time. With the expanding technical options for communication on the World Wide Web, it is tempted to focus only on issues such as hypertext markup language (HTML) syntax, page layout, or the latest and flashiest technologies. However, there needs to be a broader approach in order to articulate the information content that is to be conveyed. There is also a need to pay attention to the characteristics and qualities of the Website as a medium for communication so that there are not merely duplicate practices intended for paper and other media.
The introduction of World Wide Web (WWW) has make this problem of digital information sharing become more crucial and also leading to the information explosion and overload.
