“We should care more about students being educated, and less about the settings their parents choose. After all, successfully educated public, private, and home school students all contribute to the public good.” (Friedman Foundation). Every parent wants what is best for their child and truly wants their child to be successful. As a parent I believe that you should have the right to choose the best education that meets their child’s needs, however the parent needs to do their research rather than ‘shop around’ for the better school. As stated above the setting should not be the focus for the students to excel, it needs to come from qualified teachers, a rich curriculum, and a school that offers different activities for students to explore. “First, class size needs to be lowered whereby each pupil can receive the attention needed in the academics to achieve more optimally.” (Dr.Edidger, 2003, p. 571). Teachers needs to be highly qualified and have opportunities for professional development, there needs to be greater support in the classroom such as aids and retired teachers to volunteer, lastly schools need to be supplied with appropriate teaching materials, such as computers and rich curriculums. If we gave all of this to all schools then our schools would be on a level playing field and have true competition. “Pupils in low-income areas need a quality curriculum and other services, which strengthen the desire to learn.
