Addressing the Issue of School Choice
Education, is perhaps the most crucial part, of a child’s upbringing. A good education can mean the difference from living in poverty and ignorance or living the American dream. While the public education system appears to give every child in America the same quality of education, it does not. There is heavy discrimination against minorities in the public school system. The U.S. Department of Education states;
“Black students represent 18% of preschool enrollment but 42% of students suspended once, and 48% of the students suspended more than once”, and “Eighty-one percent (81%) of Asian-American high school students and 71% of white high school students attend high schools where the full range of math …show more content…

Many parents decide that private schools or charter schools are more appropriate for their children than public schools. Unfortunately, not only does the government fail to support these families, but they are still required to pay public school tax. The United States government must change the education system from a one size fits all model to a more tailored approach. School choice is perhaps the best response to the failure of the public education system. This program seeks to stop the back slide of American education by changing how kids go to school. Under this program school do not get any money from the department of education. Instead parents of prospective school goers get a voucher that they can give to any school. This voucher is worth about fourteen thousand dollars, which is how much the government currently pend to send one child to school for a year. They also propose to making teachers and schools undergo frequent evaluation to check for quality education. This glass door approach will promote inner school quality competitions, allowing the public to know what schools are doing the best and which ones they should avoided. School choice will systematically address the problems that students, parents, teachers, and taxpayers
