Is Voting For Young People, explains that over the last three decades young people’s involvement in politics and voting has declined compared to previous generations. Key points described in this book establish that young adults don’t follow politics by showing these statics of newspaper, television and other forms of technology reader or viewership. Wattenberg also implies that politicians simply don’t involve young people, naturally young adults aren’t interested in politics, and finally that age only defines those non-voters at that moment; with age that non-voter will turn into a voter. While raising awareness of the young non-voter Wattenberg also wants a solution to the non-voter.
Voting is for old people” at least that is what an Urban Outfitters shirt proclaimed. This shirt was supposed to spark a conversation amongst the young and motivate them to the polls. However many young adults American and other don’t feel the same. Generation difference has caused this .A study in 2002 called the CIRCLE survey brings light to this situation .The survey was given to 1,200 American between the ages 15- 25. 20% young adults felt it was their responsibility to vote, 9% duty, 34% choice and 31% right. I wont say I’m completely shocked on this survey because before this book or course I felt as if voting was a right but I think many people forget, including me how hard our ancestors fought for these civic duties. The current views speaks volumes of the US future, young adults don’t understand, care or know of their importance of their civic duty. How are we as nation change that?
