Firstly, I would like to give back to my community through volunteering. Through this, I can care for others and lend a hand to those in need. Volunteering brings me the satisfaction of assisting others. Acts of hospitality and service, in my opinion, are essential and much needed in life. I truly believe that through volunteering, I have the potential to impact lives. By offering my aid, I can attempt to bring a smile to those going through difficult times. It also provides an opportunity to be a part of a different community and to meet wonderful people.
A strong interest in a future career in medicine, however, sparked my desire to volunteer in the healthcare field. Ever since a young age, I knew that I wanted a career in the medical field.
Since a young age, I always felt inclined towards pursuing a career in the health care field; daydreaming about myself working at a clinic or hospital and making a positive impact on someone’s life. When I started college, I decided to major in Biology and explored the different career options the health field had to offer me by shadowing dietitians, nurses, physicians, and other healthcare workers to find my ideal job.
In the beginning of my senior year I was eager to expand my understanding of how it would be to work in a hospital. An opportunity arose allowing me to volunteer in the hospital at the University of Chicago. I was able to volunteer at the children's playroom, which consisted of a weekly commitment. The daily tasks I had to perform where to enlighten the spirits of children and reduce the amount of anxiety that developed within them when they approached a hospital visit. I would play games, read books, or just company the patients at their bedside. I especially love to interact with the younger patients because their laughter and innocence warms my heart up.
As a student that is currently seeking a career in the medical professions, I have had to routinely contemplate my reasons for pursuing such an extensive education program in a field that is constantly demanding excessive time and effort. I know of students—many friends and acquaintances of mine included—that have the most sure-fire, inspirational stories that align with their desire to become doctors, surgeons, physician assistants, etc. They always seemed to have a story that emphasized their desire to “give back” what they have received from the medical community. My passion to become a social worker began when I was pursuing an undergraduate degree.
Being able to take care of people is something that I wanted to do as a job when I was a child. As a child my parents bought me toy doctor kit. My father has been a diabetic since he was a kid and I would always do a check up with my toys and I always said he would be okay. I 've always been interested in healthcare since I was a young boy because I would be able to take care of and help people who are ill. Throughout this past year when my father was in the nursing home and in the hospital, I would learn what was going on with my dad from a medical level and then talking to him he would not be able to understand due to his dementia and I would be able to explain things to him so he could understand. The aspect of everything going on and talking to him about so he would not be more worried or upset made him feel more better and relaxed. Having the ability to do that with the patients I come in contact with each day is very rewarding to do that each and everyday. The more I do that the more I learn for myself and the patients I help take good care of
Every time I do some kind of service – I have the opportunity to learn new ideas, discover new perspectives and I've have grown as an individual. By giving back I like making people feel as though they matter, and it gives me a good feeling at the end of the day because I feel I have made a difference. I grow as a person each time I do volunteering. Some people do volunteering because they have to, but I do it because I want to. I love volunteering.
As a child, I grew up with volunteering and helping others being an important aspect of my life. I have taken this strong background and woven it into how I live my life today and in any future goals I have. The biggest opportunity I have had with volunteering is becoming involved in an organization called Interact, a high school division of Rotary clubs. I have been an active member since my freshmen year and was honored to be elected as the 2015-2016 President. I am excited to have this chance to take my passion for helping others and spread it towards as many people possible.

Donate to the community- I want to help volunteer in my community by giving time and energy to important causes. Things like tutoring young children or packaging food for less fortunate families are acts that can go a long way in bettering someone else’s life.
Volunteering is an important contributor to our society. It is also a great opportunity to learn different skills, especially young people, and they will become a part of who you are. Your future employers will thank you for it, as will any college or university that you decide to apply too. It is also a perfect way for everyone to meet different people and experience different things. Volunteering not only actively will help people; it also helps the environment.
