Since the summer of grade 8 graduation, I started to volunteer at the Extraordinary Education Centre located at 462 McNicoll Ave. Toronto, near NcNicoll and Victoria Park Avenue. I have volunteered over a hundred hours at the center thought out the summer of 2014 and continued volunteering in the month of July of 2015. The reason I choose this organization to volunteer at is that I want to experience how is the life for an adult to take care dozen of children and learn how to take care of kids in different ages. My roles and responsibilities are to help to load the car with the supplies for the soccer summer camp group, assist the soccer coach to watch over children, help cook lunch for the center, help to look after children during their monthly trip and many others. …show more content…
The environment is very clean and tidy. The coaches, teachers, and kids are extremely nice to us. With their great attitude and environment is a very fun to volunteer at the organization. One disadvantage of my volunteer work is that is quite tiring. I have to bike about 30 minutes to get to the organization, plus the work time looking after kids and the preparation for their lunch, and the extra-long volunteer day of the monthly trip. Is quite tiring that we have to work for 5 or more hours every day, even more during the monthly trip and bike an hour to get to the organization and back
I felt as if I was able to make a change even though it wasn't a major change. I also loved working with kids of all ages ranging from kindergarten to 8th grade. They all brought a different personality which I enjoyed. Overall, volunteering anywhere helps someone make a change in someones life and their own even though they may not notice it. There are many people who are in need of volunteers all the time and not many people get the opportunity to volunteer during their lifetime.
For our project, Maddie, Payal, Shraddha, and I decided to volunteer with a group called Angel Arms located in Latrobe. Angel Arms is an organization that takes care and helps rehabilitate babies who were born addicted to drugs. At first, we assumed we would be working with their snuggler program which would have allowed us to hold and comfort these babies. However, with the opioid epidemic on the rise, a place was needed for their work to continue. Although a long way out, Angel Arms is restoring an old abandoned Victorian house to turn it a rehabilitation place for these babies. Participant observation is conducted throughout anthropology and sociology as a fundamental research method. Moreover, participant observation is rendered through a researcher’s efforts to delve into social concepts and diverse cultures in an interpersonal and comprehensive manner (Kawulich, 2005). Being examined, is an example of participant observation in concurrence with an example of methodology, theoretical perspective and epistemology. The example of participant observation will be addressed alongside a discussion on findings. Further, an evaluation plus recommendations will be made for future research observations.
I chose to volunteer at Rice Care Center and Therapy Suites in Willmar, Minnesota. I chose to volunteer here because, I work in Therapy Suites and primarily interact with short-term patients. Since patients are there for rehabilitation, I do not get a lot of time to build relationship as they are busy with physical and occupational therapy and often have company throughout the day. During my time volunteering, I decided to go to the long-term units, Cushman Cottage and Sophia House, and spend time with the residents there. Another reason I decided to volunteer here is because not every resident gets company or a phone call for days, maybe even weeks at a time. I strongly believe everyone, regardless of age and status, craves interaction with another human being.
After a single telephone call to the Children’s Hospital Volunteer Services Coordinators, I learned that volunteers were readily accepted to serve within the hospital’s recreational therapy deparment. When they asked my reason for volunteering, I explained to them that I wanted to help the children develop their leadership potential as well as other abilities. The members of volunteer services seemed excited.
In the beginning of my senior year I was eager to expand my understanding of how it would be to work in a hospital. An opportunity arose allowing me to volunteer in the hospital at the University of Chicago. I was able to volunteer at the children's playroom, which consisted of a weekly commitment. The daily tasks I had to perform where to enlighten the spirits of children and reduce the amount of anxiety that developed within them when they approached a hospital visit. I would play games, read books, or just company the patients at their bedside. I especially love to interact with the younger patients because their laughter and innocence warms my heart up.
I started volunteering nine years ago. Once a week for two years, my mother, my sister, and I volunteered at an organization that helps the unprivileged. When I entered high school I started volunteering for credits. But it wasn’t until five months ago that I realized the impact of volunteerism. It took me eight years and seven months.
Volunteer Experience/Summary SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) is a nonprofit organization that strives to increase violence awareness among youth by providing education and community programs. I volunteered at a local chapter in my community at Stonybrook Middle School. SAVE chapters are established and operated by students and volunteers. The organization spreads positive messages of nonviolence by focusing on crime prevention, conflict management, and service projects. The organization is mostly school based and strives to teach students the importance of handling and reducing violence.
Volunteering in health missions, however do require some sacrifice, but is defiantly a rewarding experience. You have to be able to set time aside from job, family, and any other time consuming things. It can be hard to give up these things and go off away from your family, especially for long periods of times. Missions can vary in length from a week or two to a lifelong profession. People come from all over seeking volunteer on missions; careers vary to where the ships have a range of professions, providing a very effective way of providing help for those that need it. Even with people coming from all over there is still a great demand for volunteers in all fields of health care.

This quote is meant to stress the importance of volunteering and how it not only benefits the people in need but also the volunteers. Volunteering is an essential aspect of society because it teaches responsibility, humbleness , and helps save money. Unlike most other organizations, a charitable organization is happy to give positions to passionate, though inexperienced, individuals who desire to help others and benefit the community. Thousands of homeless animals are looking for forever homes in America. Volunteering is a great way to give to your community and socialize the animals at the shelters. Working with dogs and cats that have not had good starts in their lives helps them trust again. It helps animals get over the trauma they have had before they went to the shelter. Socializing makes the animal more adoptable and they are given a chance to get forever homes. Volunteer at your local humane society 's and help out the animals like I have worked with in shelters.
A common misconception about volunteering is that it only helps the cause. Often times that aspect is the only part that is highlighted when the topic of donating time comes up. There is a different side of volunteering though. Many volunteers donate their time to help better the community they live in and the people that live in it. When they choose to do this they not only help others but they are also helping better themselves. Volunteering benefits a person by building connections with peers, improving family life, expanding career skills, overcoming self doubt, having lasting life impressions, and creating new opportunities.
A reflection of my volunteering experience can be summarized in two words: Life-changing. It is hard to explain the feelings that occur when you involve yourself in selfless acts for your community, such as volunteering. There is a feeling in your heart that you cannot ignore, maybe it is the happiness you feel or the overflow of emotions in helping others. In other words, it is a feeling in which you want to share with others. Maybe with a friend, maybe a classmate, maybe a family member, or maybe even a stranger. Either way, spreading how life-changing volunteering can be is a great start to making a positive change in your community by simply by involving others.
Volunteering impacted my life by building my self-confidence, relationship skills, and social skills. Helping others and devoting my time to this organization supplied me with a sense of pride. I now know that I have the ability to accomplish a wide spectrum of tasks. Volunteering gave me a positive outlook on life. While doing so, I met numerous people whether they were patients, coworkers, or other volunteers. I learned how to share similar interests with others which created friendships. As relationships began forming, I felt an enormous amount of support. I ceased to be timid; my interaction with others strengthened.
