There is a bulletin board on which the teachers have displayed all students written work. Displaying students work on a bulletin board sends message that the teachers value student’s work. Displaying student’s work encourages students to learn. It tells them that its ok to be messy and that the mistakes are part of learning. Along on the bulletin board, students’ names are displayed on the classroom door and on other work is displayed on the classroom’ closet doors. Classroom posters are great method to comprehend learning through vision. She has a behavior pocket chart. Each pocket has a student’s name and 5 cards that represent a good or a bad behavior. Yellow is not a good behavior it tells a student that he could do better. If a student gets red card, he/she will get a note or call home. Purple is a great, above and beyond behavior. When a students get a purple card, they get a ticket to use a computer, sit close to their friend for a day, get a prize or use a computer for 15 minutes the next day. When ever she saw an inappropriate behavior of students, she talked to them and make them understand how their behavior is unaccepted and how they could do better. She talks to students directly looking into their eyes and sometimes even got to their level (sitting on the knees on floor). She models herself for students to behave in good way. The event was held at the University of Pittsburgh during the Intro to Interpreting American Sign Language-English class taught by Jessica Adams on Tuesday, November 10th at 5:30PM and the interpreted lecture took place in a typical classroom located on the third floor of the Cathedral of Learning. The physical layout in this classroom consists of the students’ desks in small groups around the classroom and three small group tables at the front of the room, side of the room, and back of the room. There are also cabinets up againt the walls and drawers in the counter in the back of the room. They have the alphabet twice on the wall and numbers one through twenty on the wall, along with pictures that show each number. The room is not very colorful because it is a bluish white color, but the things on the wall make it more comfortable. There is a master schedule on the wall as well. Educators have the biggest influence on student’s beliefs and experiences. Every classroom should have a positive and social learning atmosphere (Classroom Management for Elementary Teachers, 1994). Setting rules and expectations the first day is very important. All procedures and behavior expectations will be clearly stated, and practiced. I will implement the traffic light to let students know how they are behaving. Green for excellent behavior, yellow for ok behavior red for unsatisfactory behavior. Williams it’s very busy with learning stuff everywhere. The classroom has different section called ‘centers’ like the library. In the middle is where the desk are placed they are grouped into 5-6 student at each table. I immediately noticed some negative behavior management on the part of the teacher by yelling at the students that wasn’t listening to her instructions. Another behavior management tool that doesn’t seems to work completely well was the point system that give or take a point from any student based on their behavior or action throughout the day. Most students seem to not be so thrilled or fazed by losing a point or when they gained one. But the teacher used this system quite frequent to make her point and take action. An action taking by the teacher that I felt was problematic is when she questioned a student that was better behaved, if another student was misbehaving. The classroom is bright, with one wall being made up of windows, the others have student’s work posted. There are signs to remind students of the rules, the alphabet and numbers are listed and placed where everyone is able to see them. Two dry erase boards are on opposite ends of the room. There is ample cubby space, one for each student to place personal items such as a coat or backpack. The science area is home for ants at this point but has been home to many different species throughout the school year. The library area has a lamp with a rainbow of colors all around it and gives plenty of light to those who spend time reading there. There was no specific writing area set aside; the students are encouraged to write at their seats throughout the day.
In the classroom I am observing in I have watched how the teacher and the students start and end their day by following different procedures for ex: attendance, portfolios, grades, and class rituals like morning meeting, transitions and end of the day procedures. All of these procedures and rituals contribute to the classroom culture and are parts of instructional practices. So when the students come first in, in the morning they have morning circle where they do attendance, weather, lunch choices, how I feel today chart and much more. Each student has a job during morning circle which rotates every day so not every student has the same job. So attendance is kept and done at morning meeting everyday which is important for the teacher to keep

The teacher that I observed was Mrs. Cynthia Carney. She is the kindergarten teacher at Greystone Elementary school. As my first time in the classroom, I tried to observe as much as possible. I had a great first impression of the classroom, it is a very positive environment, and the teacher has definitely established a clear routine and rules that the students follow. The teacher did a very brief (5-10 minute) science lesson/introduction to the unit on weather. I attended a second grade class at Smallville Elementary on February 22, 2014; the class began promptly at 0855. There are 26 children in this second grade class. There are 15 male students and 11 female students. The student diversity is 2 Hispanics, 1 African-American, 1 East Indian, and 1 New Zealander (White but with an extreme accent). Three children were left-handed.

It was a cold day when I visited Overlea high school and observed all that was happening in the school. The schools looked as if it was built before 20 years. The walls had black dust on it, there were chips and chocolate wrappers in the corner and the green grass was wet. In the morning at 7am I saw yellow colored buses filled with twenty five students coming to drop them at the school. Near the flagpole there were many students that belonged to other school standing and waiting for their bus. Those students were acting as if they were going to a jail and were never going to be released. There was lot of traffic and the mood of the students was lazy. It seemed liked they were tried of coming to school; they carried bags filled with books. I saw a boy who came out of the bus with no bag and nothing in his hands. A girl was dressed up as if it was summer. She had worn blue shorts, black flip flops, and white tank top. Her face looked absent without makeup and jewelry.
