There is a bulletin board on which the teachers have displayed all students written work. Displaying students work on a bulletin board sends message that the teachers value student’s work. Displaying student’s work encourages students to learn. It tells them that its ok to be messy and that the mistakes are part of learning. Along on the bulletin board, students’ names are displayed on the classroom door and on other work is displayed on the classroom’ closet doors. Classroom posters are great method to comprehend learning through vision. Along with the students’ work, this first grade classroom’s walls are also decorated with beautiful, colorful, educative posters. The poster’s bright colors attract children’s attention. She has a behavior pocket chart. Each pocket has a student’s name and 5 cards that represent a good or a bad behavior. Yellow is not a good behavior it tells a student that he could do better. If a student gets red card, he/she will get a note or call home. Purple is a great, above and beyond behavior. When a students get a purple card, they get a ticket to use a computer, sit close to their friend for a day, get a prize or use a computer for 15 minutes the next day. However, she also never avoids or let go of inappropriate behavior. When ever she saw an inappropriate behavior of students, she talked to them and make them understand how their behavior is unaccepted and how they could do better. She talks to students directly looking into their eyes and sometimes even got to their level (sitting on the knees on floor). She models herself for students to behave in good way. The teachers used words and a lots of praising to make students to pay attention and behave in an appropriate acceptable way. She advice me that it is very important that the students’ behavior is addressed, good or bad, because that’s how they learn and understand the difference between acceptable and unacceptable behavior.
