There's always a fresh start anywhere you go, and from Tidewater Community College you can go anywhere. The college has several different campuses all over the Hampton Roads area. Virginia Beach campus is the largest of all! The campus is an impressive thirteen building compound including the Student Center which is the most prominent feature of the college. The library and book store are also state of the art features at TCC. These are a few of the endless opportunities and resources that are available to the students at TCC. The first thing that crosses your eyes when you arrive on campus is the large elegant trees. In the morning there's a heaven like view when the light shines through the branches of the tree. There is an intense fragrance of freshly mowed grass as you walk through the campus. You can't help but notice some of the attractive …show more content…
The building overlooks the calm waters of the lovely lake that's nestled beside it. The never ending sounds of the ducks and geese gives you a feeling of being close to nature. The building offers many opportunities to help students relax, chill out, and get rid of stress in between classes. The mind can race all day during college and the comradery that students can experience in the student center can really take a load off. The enjoyable boisterous sound of students having a blast in the game room is an immediate distraction to get a students mind off a stressful day. The weight room has an substantial amount of equipment to fit any student's needs. Including a remarkable cardiovascular area, specific machinery, and exquisite well equipped weight lifting system. To top it off if you are impatient about completing your work out in time. The weight room is seldom crowded during the day. Also located in the student center is a wonderful book store that makes purchasing the necessary books and equipment convenient
The gym is a place where a typical American college student goes to work out their bodies. Based on the fact that I personally could be considered a gym rat, a stereotypical name for someone who spends a lot of time in the work out area. This is partially by choice being on the swim team requires the strength training equipment that is available to our disposal in the gym. While I have been to the gym many times I haven’t really taken the time to take in the other people around me. Within this ethnographic exercise I will explore the college gym norms within Roger Williams University.
in English and taught as a part time instructor. It’s a garden that he describes as “overgrown and seemingly unmanaged...perhaps the only place left at the university that is not meticulously landscaped and stage-managed for tour groups and the website”. While the “aesthetic conformity” of the school is not the only issue, DeBoer’s portrayal of the campus sets the mood of his statement. The juxtaposed descriptions of the natural versus managed spaces on campus reflect the bigger picture; namely universities are more focused on marketability than education. He backs this up with other information, but it is this personal example that will likely stick with the audience. The garden might seem like a trivial issue, but it represents DeBoer’s personal stake in the subject. “That’s precisely why I love the garden: It’s one of the last little wild places left at Purdue”, he says, “Naturally, it’s slated for demolition”. This particular statement is a powerful ending to his introduction because it depicts the weakness of campus culture and freedom against university
Each university has different versions of a campus environment and academic areas that make it unique, thus having its own individual aspects when it comes to the decision of certain students. The Hofstra campus is known to attract new-comers due to its arboretum and programs; such as business, communications, medical, law, etc. Frederick Soviero writes, “…encompasses 240 acres and provides a beautiful campus setting that inspires and motivates its students…Today, more than 12,000 evergreen and deciduous trees represent 625 species and varieties, and the number is increasing every year. The Friends of the Hofstra University Arboretum have developed a two-acre plot of land for a distinctive bird sanctuary…”
When I reached the weight area I noticed the surrounding walls covered in mirrors. Throughout the gym floor, next to water fountains, you can find plastic containers hinged against the wall filled with antibacterial cleaning agents and paper towels. The open space and the high ceilings trapped the sound of the ongoing pop music interrupted by the occasional grunt or the crash of a dumbbell on the matted floors. The metal on metal as weight bars are hoisted back onto their rack. The commotion of treadmills, elliptical, and stationary bikes is the white noise of the gym. Briefly, I analyzed my surroundings observing how the weight area was mostly male dominated with a handful of women, an absolute disparity in comparison to the cardio sections.
A college campus is nothing without a gym. College sports, and cultural events take place in the T.M. Elmore Gym on Alabama A&M’s campus. This gym is located on the west side of A&M’s campus between Louis Crews stadium and Dr. Ernest L. Knight West Campus dorms. This building has made a large impact on the culture of the school considering that the gym is home to sports teams, classrooms, pep rallies, guest speakers and convocations.
... research facility located close to a city rich is different prospects. The advantages of these important learning styles are what uphold the University of North Carolina at Charlotte as a school with deep values and comforting surroundings that houses students who value not only an exceptional education, but also an unforgettable college experience.
...I have come to the conclusion that the Boston College gym is primarily a place the improve or show of appearances in a sexualized manner for the most part, whether it be girls dressing in tight clothes, girls working out to look better in a bikini, guys lifting to build muscle, or guys attempting to look like they know what they are doing, all participants are partaking in this situation for the sake of getting noticed by others.
Recently, I was subjected to a tour of Everest Campus, in Vancouver Washington. To understand what I went through, one ...
It’s a place where you could eat breakfast or lunch while watching a screen and talking to friends about current events, how our classes were going, and grades. My favorite thing to eat is the chicken strips with chips, a cookie, and occasionally ice cream. The Food Court contributes to what makes the Memorial Union stand up to its values. The lecture series is the place where intellectuals, famous activist, and lecturers go to speak. Great speakers like Ta-nehisi Coates (The Atlantic Magazine writer), Ali Velshi (MSNBC political commentator), Harriet Washington (Harvard professor in medicine), and Senator Klobuchar (United States Senator from Minnesota) have all given lectures that have blown my mind. This helps expand my knowledge and creativity. This applies to everyone, not just myself. What Iowa State does is provide equal opportunity for all people to learn which is very special to me and represents the mission statement. One person may be into politics, the other science, and the other music, no matter what our differences are we can rely on the lecture series to provide a lecture that fits our ideological
As I passed the La Salle campus, I noticed the bright orange walls, the big glass doors, and the crowds of students filing into the building. I was not nervous. I
The gym is relatively square with widows covering half of the room. The other half of the room has a wall of mirrors with the last wall having a hallway to bathrooms as well as the fitness trainer’s office. On one of the window walls it has a row of cardio equipment (that has attached TV’s on them) facing the outside. In the back corner near the cardio equipment is a stretching and body exercise area (kettle bells, mats, exercise balls, medicine balls, and stepping stands). In the center are weight machines that range from leg, arm, and abdominal equipment. The wall with the mirrors contains the free weights and other bench press and weight machines. Overall...
The familiarity of the woods, the natural urges my body has to be outside and be active in the setting that most people in today’s society only truly see in movies, if that, reminds me of other ventures into the woods, the citrusy smell of pine mixed with the smells of wild grasses and various flowers create an unmatched bombardment of scents. These scents stimulate the mind in a calming way unlike any medication or music ever could. The aroma of the forest sends chills down my spine, causing you to get the urge to explore and to absorb yourself in to the natural wonders the human body
Fortunately, I wake every morning to the most beautiful sun lit house. I sit on my porch sipping coffee, while I drink in an atmosphere that steals my breath away. Rolling hills lay before me that undulate until they crash into golden purple mountains. Oh how they are covered in spectacular fauna, ever blooming foliage, and trees that are heavy with pungent fruit. Green it is always so green here at my house. Here where the air lays heavy and cool on my skin as does the striking rays of the sun upon my cheeks. I know in my soul why I choose to be here every day. Pocketed in all the nooks and crannies of these valleys and hills are stately homes, rich with architecture resplendent. Diversity is the palate here; ...
A recreation center is a basic standard at most universities. The student recreation center at The University of Idaho is a valuable resource for students with both indoor and outdoor activities to suit the needs of many.
