Did you know that the average amount of time an 8-18 American child spends on video games per week is 8 hours? That’s a more than a whole school day! Many kids today are spending more and more time on video games. Not only is it damaging to the brain and body, but it also can cause insanity and dementia. Many of the mass murderers of the past have been found to play violent video games. Teens should not be permitted to play violent video games to ensure that they will not become aggressive. The foundation of the first video games was the CRT. The cathode ray tube (CRT) was first used by the US military in the 1940s for a missile defense system. It was the later adapted into video games in the 1950s. The first few video games had low graphics and were very simple. For example, one of the first video games was “OXO”, a game of tic-tac-toe (BMI Gaming). The first ever handheld game console was released in 1989 by Nintendo. They named it the Nintendo Gameboy. The PlayStation of 1995 was the first console to stress 3D game play. Then nine years later, Nintendo released another game console, their Nintendo DS. It was the first touch screen handheld game console (Time Inc.). Over the years, video games have become more and more advanced and have had better technology and graphics. As time has passed over these last decades, many mass-murdering shootings all over the world have been linked back to video games. Mass killers like Columbine shooters Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, Norwegian mass murderer Anders Breivik, and Adam Lanza of Sandy Hook Elementary, have been linked to violent video games.
