Violence In Video Games and Aggression

This question judges the social effects of a repetitive sequence of medial entertainment in relation to the increase in an individual’s aggressive behavior. The violence of today’s video games are far more visually gruesome then they were ten years ago. An example is the modern popular game Goldeneye 007, whose bad guys no longer disappear in a cloud of smoke when killed. Instead they perform an elaborate maneuver when killed. For example, those shot in the neck fall to their knees and then their face while clutching at their throats. These graphic games can increase an individual’s aggressiveness by portraying the act of a murder, as in Goldeneye 007. By answering this question, we can become more aware and be able to identify possible social behavioral problems in relation to the video games being played. If a certain type of game causes an increase or decrease in a particular behavior, you can modify the behavioral problem as desired.

What are the effects of Aggression? Aggression is action, such as attacking someone or a group with intent to harm someone. It can be a verbal attack, such as insults, threats, sarcasm, or attributing motives to the individual, or a physical punishment or restriction. Direct behavioral signs include being overly critical, fault finding, name-calling, accusing someone of having immoral or despicable traits or motives, nagging, whining, sarcasm, prejudice, and/or flashes of temper.

What causes the individual to become aggressive? Researchers suggest that performing violent acts in video games may be more contributing to children's aggression than passively watching violent acts on television.
