Violence against women is not a problem of today; it is rooted decades before. It is present all over the world .The condition is getting worse day by day. It is crossing all the borders and races. Violence against women is a very serious and sensitive issue as it is one of the most pervasive of human rights violation denying fundamental rights to almost half of population (females and girls).Domestic violence is much more drastic than violence outside because home is a place where individual seeks love, security, safety and shelter but we can’t deny the fact that it is also a place that imperils lives. Violence includes harassment, maltreatment, brutality, cruelty, physical injury or attempting to place a woman in fear of injury or psychological violence. Impact of physical violence may be more visible than psychological violence but repeated humiliation restricted social mobility and denial of economic resources is more subtle and insidious forms of violence ; makes a woman mentally destabilized and powerless . In India patriarchy and gender discrimination are the main reasons of violence perperiated against women and girls. Violence against women is a global issue; it’s a stigma on civilized society which is compelling intellectuals to focus on this alarming situation. So many laws are introduced day by day to eradicate the problem but it is not so easy to overcome it without awakening of society. In this paper an attempt has been made to analyze the causes and its impact on victim.

The child rearing practice in India needs to be changed on priority basis .Education will also help to bring awareness among women about their legal rights. Women should try to become economically independent to cope up with domestic violence. In addition to all these remedies, a woman should take initiative step to combat this heinous crime.

In this paper I will be telling you many different forms of domestic violence. I will include the physical abuse, sexual abuse, verbal abuse, spiritual abuse, economic abuse, social abuse, and emotional abuse. I will also describe the "cycle of violence", teen dating violence, and why women stay with an abusive partner.
Today, modern society faces such problem, as domestic violence, which is common issue in majority of the countries, and USA is not exception. Statically in USA one of three women will be abused throughout her life. Domestic violence is mainly related with people’s behavior and psychology. This situation influence in different ways children, families and American society in general and it can’t be ignored, but at the same time this issue is so controversial, that it’s really difficult to find the solution.
Domestic violence is a serious dilemma in today’s society. The only answer toward preventing domestic violence should start when we raise our children. Violence is a learned behavior. When children get hit, they learn something in that process. They ascertain that when frustrated or angry, it is OK to take out that frustration and anger on someone else. They learn that violence is OK. Violence then becomes a learned behavior. The only way to promote a non-violent society is to teach children non-violent habits.
The problems caused by domestic violence become more and more serious across the time. Compare with the incidents like car accidents and rape, there are more women getting hurt because of domestic violence. Many researches were carried out to understand men's domestic violence and some of the researchers suggested that the perpetrators of the domestic violence, abuse their partner due to their experience of rejection and shame. Thus, a rejection-abuse cycle existed (Brown, James, & Taylor, 2010). There are four steps in the cycle, which the sense of rejection of man make up a threat to self, leading to a defend against this threat and then results in abusive behaviour.

Domestic violence is a behavioral trait used to establish power and control over a person; the abuser uses fear and intimidation through threats or the use of violence. Other terms for domestic violence include intimate partner violence, battering, relationship abuse, spousal abuse, or family violence. One in four women will experience some type of domestic violence in her lifetime and 4,744,000 women a year are victims to this physical violence (Erez, 2002). It is necessary to determine whether the problem is personal one or due to society (social problems), so that the individuals involved can learn how to deal with their situation.

For women in India, the last century has marked a great amount of progress, but at times it has been as stubborn as all the centuries before it. Women have been expanding their roles in society, at home, and even politics with female Prime Minster Indira Gandhi. Gender roles are ingrained deeply, however, and that is no more apparent than in the current rape epidemic. Specifically the last 40 years have been some of the most promising for Indian women, but they have also seen an 875% increase in rape cases (Park). The answers to why this is happening, and why it is happening now may open up a much deeper issue. The social climate is changing; a power struggle between genders steadies the quantity of violence against women. Meanwhile, their empowerment to speak out and hold a rapist accountable brings it to the attention of the world. A longstanding injustice that has been occurring right bellow the surface for years may have reached its boiling point.
Violence against women (VAW) is now considered and recognized as a public health predicament and a human rights infringement of a worldwide scale and force (Ono, 2013; Raj & Silverman, 2002). Research evidence exists for it serving as a crucial social determinant of health and its resulting vast and damaging impact on physical and mental health for women in Canada (Sharma, 2001).
