Lamar Carter known to all as, Vince Carter, was born on January 26.1977 in Daytona Beach, FL. Carter became an extraordinary leader at a young age. Carter used his talent to gain fame and fortune so that he could give back to his community and the less fortunate.
During his years at Campbell Middle School he was the only seventh grader to ever play on the Varsity Basketball team, not only was he on the team but he was a starter on the team. While at Mainland High school he was captain of the Volleyball Team, member of the Marching Band and is known to be the most gifted basketball player to grace their court. Vince was also awarded McDonald’s All-America and was voted Florida’s 1995 Basketball Player-of-the-Year.
After graduating with Honors in 1995 from Mainland, Vince was voted onto the USA Junior National Team where he played in the World Championship. After choosing from 76 scholarship offers he decided to attend the University of North Carolina, from 1995 through 1998. During this time Vince continued to surpass and received the Statistical Leader Award for two years in a row and took the Tarhells to the Final Four two times where he was the leading scorer in both games. In addition to that, he earned the best field goal percentage and the defensive player of the year awards. Just when he thought he couldn’t possibly earn another award he was chosen to be one of the five finalists for the prestigious, John Wooden Award and also received the National Player of the Year Award.

Christopher Albert Herren (born September 27, 1975) from Fall River, Massachusetts, was the Durfee High School basketball superstar. His family’s basketball legacy at Durfee included his father, grandfather, two uncles and his older brother who Chris would drink with as a freshman in high school. His brother said that it was normal to drink, drug, fight, and play hard. Recruited by Boston College after turning down offers at the University of Kentucky and Duke University, Chris was featured in magazine articles including a Sports Illustrated cover story, hyping his success. In 1994, Chris broke his wrist playing his first game at Boston College. He took a year off from playing basketball to “not study and do drugs”. Within three months of his injury, Chris failed two drug tests and was subsequently kicked off the team and expelled from college. Drugs took everything away by the time he was eighteen years old.
I read How Vince Carter Conquered the NBA Drive, by Chris Young. I learned a lot of things about the NBA problems and the way the players really think not just how they show them in T.V. One of the things I learned about Vince Carter was that he had a lot of problems with his first manager. An example is when Richard Peddy his first manager got put in prison for stealing money from An NFL player. Vince Carter changed his manager and sued his old manager. I also learned that the first year that Vince Carter played he was underestimated the manager though he would be like a helping hand for Tracy Mcgrady his cousin and Ex-player for the Raptors. I also didn’t know that Vince Carter quit the contract with his sponsor Puma because the shoes were hurting his toes. I also found out that Vince Carter the second choice For the Raptors the Raptors first choice was “Tractor” Taylor a big center something the Raptors needed really bad. Another thing I learned was that the Raptors had to pay 27 million to get into the NBA. The last thing I learned was that Vince Carter did not want to do the NBA Dunk contest he was convinced to do it by his friend Kevin Garnett.
Born on December 7, 1956 in West Baden, Indiana, Larry Bird was raised in French Link, Indiana, he went to Springs Valley High School, and he also attended and played basketball for Indiana, and Indiana State University. Growing up Larry's family always struggled financially so Georgia and Joe Bird would often send their son Larry to live with his grandparents. In 1975 after Larry's parents had divorced his father Joe Bird committed suicide due to alcoholism and personal difficulties. Despite everything he had been through by the time he was a sophomore in high school Larry had become one of the best players in French Link.

Michael Jordan, in his prime, was thought of as one of the greatest basketball champions of all time. A shooting guard, standing at six-six, Jordan was able to out play anyone in his position. He started his career at the University of North Carolina, where he helped his team win a national championship. He then was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in the 1984-85 season. While playing for the Bulls, Jordan received many awards such as, MVP, five championships, Olympic gold medals, slam dunk contests, and many more defensive and offensive awards. Jordan simply dominated the nineties and left the game as a NBA Finals winner in 1998.

Michael Jordan was a hard worker from the beginning of his life to today. Jordan grew up in Wilmington, NC, and he developed a very competitive attitude from an early age. His father says he was born with this “competitive problem”, and that the one person he tries to outdo more than anyone else is himself (Michael Jordan Biography). During his high school years, Michael Jordan became more and more interested with the game of basketball, he enjoyed it. On a November Evening in 1978, 50 teenage guys packed into one gymnasium (later named Michael J. Jordan Gymnasium) at Laney High School, excited to get a shot at making their basketball team. Among those guys was 16 year old Michael J. Jordan. Coaches took note of MJ’s Effort more than anything else, because everything else, to them, was mediocre. It was a rare event if as sophomore made the varsity team, and 5’10 Michael was hoping he would be on the roster when he took a look at it the next day. Sadly, he was not on the list.
