Many video games supply people with a way to entertain themselves. One game for example is National Basketball Association 2k17 (NBA 2k17). Although it is a popular game, many are uninformed of its many advantages. Some find that NBA 2k17 is just another way to earn money and persuade consumers into buying their product. However, playing the game of NBA can help improve one’s skill and knowledge about the game of basketball.
In the game NBA 2k17, there is a game mode called My Player. My player game mode allows the gamer to choose his position and play as a virtual player. The objective of this game mode is for the gamer to become a pro, while starting as a recruit. In this game mode, the camera is set to a first-person point of view. This makes the gamer feel as though they are actually in the game and playing on a NBA court. A small white ring is placed at the feet of the gamer’s virtual player. This allows the gamer to realize where to be positioned in a basketball game. For instance, when on the defensive side of the basketball, the ring shows the gamer where to be positioned with the teammates beside him. In this case, the ring positions the gamer to be in a zone formation, which makes it hard for the attacking side to score. In contrast, when on the attacking side, the ring positions the gamer to open lanes in between defenders. This allows the gamer to be positioned in a spot where he can receive the ball. It’s played at every level from 5 & under to the professional athletes in the NBA and overseas. Every team is made up of virtually the same elements; the guards, big men and coaches. Basketball is not a sport where you can focus solely on yourself, but the focus should be on the team. The sport is very public and easy to see, however there are many things that occur behind closed doors when no one is looking.
Abstract: Basketball players who enter the NBA early are not ready for the NBA. Early entry into the NBA by high school and college basketball players has had a negative affect on the college basketball program, the NBA, and the players themselves. Each year the number of early entries in the NBA rises more and more. In 1997, 47 basketball players entered the NBA draft early, and the number has risen since then. The college basketball program is drained of talent due to players leaving early. The high school players that go directly into the NBA are hurting the college program because they never contribute to the college program at all. The NBA now has to deal with a higher level of immaturity and disrespect by young players. College basketball players obtain a certain amount of respect and maturity in college. The players suffer by not grasping the concept of learning due to lack of education. Many analysts say that entering the NBA before finishing a four-year program is entering too early. The NBA commissioner, David Stern, has begun to work on ways to encourage players to go to and stay in college.

Contrary to popular belief basketball is not just a sport; in fact the way many players act off the court is the kind of attitude they bring with them to the game. Many times the way a player plays, or the way people rate his gameplay, is because of the way he acts on the court. I believe that there are four main types of players, and from these many more branch off. The four categories are, the ‘Ball Hog’, the ‘Talker’, the ‘Hot Head’, and the ‘Laid Back’.

From a player’s height, the mass of the ball and a given position on the court which would include the distance from the basket it is possible to calculate the exact angle and force the shooter must apply to make a basket every time he or she shoots the ball. Of course if it were this easy basketball would not be as fun to watch or play. The problem with hitting a shot every time with the calculated angle and force is that the ball would have to travel toward the basket with the exact angle and force calculated for that particular shot. Sports, a very popular past time today, have been around since ancient times. Greek Olympic Games featured events from chariot races, javelin throws, to wrestling. In addition, a game similar to soccer was played in China by the second century BC. In England, a violent rugby type game was even played to settle feuds between villages. With the development of the industrial revolution and the creation of the first public schools, sports decreased in violence and were played more recreationally and constructively. Basketball was invented to help the youth in New England spend their energy in the winter months. Since the early 1900’s sports have been a key experience in the United States (“History of Sports”). I have played sports for many years, and the experience has helped me grow significantly as an individual.
