Video games are a fairly new form of entertainment whose popularity has grown exponentially since they were first introduced to the world. Similar to television, video games are also a form of entertainment and media but they differ in the fact that they are interactive. Prosocial video games, those games that don’t contain violence and promote good, have even proven to promote prosocial actions in the real world. Along with these positives, they can even be used in the medical field by facilitating the training of surgeons and treating clinically ill patients. Video games do indeed have negative effects on their users such as creating addiction in the user as well as violent video games sparking possible aggressive thoughts, even if it is only for a short period of time. Although some violent video games do indeed have adverse effects on the player who play them, the positive uses in medicine and benefits they offer the player outweigh the potential negative effects.
