Because the paper transcript is synchronized with the video deposition, the video editor will be able to quickly navigate to the exact location of the clips. Since most video production companies charge for editing by the hour, the more editing that you can do at your office, the less time you'll spend in the edit bay. With an accurate paper edit, the editor can quickly find and assemble the video clips on your behalf.

Depending on your preferences and how familiar you are with the material, you can either watch the video deposition in real time and markup your transcript whenever you see a clip that should be included in the video or you can work solely off of the written transcript. Whenever a crucial piece of testimony occurs, note its start and stop points on the paper transcript or on a clean sheet of paper. Ideally, you will have a separate sheet of paper consisting of all start and stop points for the editor. Bring this sheet along with your marked up transcript to the editor.

Editing is often something overlooked when watching a movie, but it is definitely a huge part of the production process. Two different pieces that portray editing very well are Katy Perry’s Rise music video, and the silent comedy film, Sherlock Jr. by Buster Keaton. The main idea of editing is to create either continuity where it flows nicely, or discontinuity so it’s very obvious there was a change. Every time somebody rents a video or watches a movie on television there is always that little blurb right before they begin viewing about the picture being formatted for the screen. Usually, it is ignored or merely taken as a cue that the film is about to start. That little forewarning actually holds a lot of significance, for when one views a movie in its original, wide screen version, a whole new world opens up. When a movie is altered from its initial state, and cropped in the editing room for home viewing, an overwhelming amount of the film is unsuspectingly missed. This has become extremely obvious when viewing any movie, and in The Graduate a lot of innovative things are adjusted and lost. Film editing by definition is part of the creative postproduction process of filmmaking. In today’s modern world, film has made use of advanced digital technology to help with the editing. The editor or editors are usually given a complete compilation of all the footage. These various separate shots that can be regarded as ‘ raw’ footage. Their task is to create a finished motion picture through combining and selecting shots and putting them into a coherent sequence of events. Whenever we are viewing a film it is extremely difficult to consciously perceive all the editing that has been undertaken. Every single time there is a change from one image to another, this is an edit. For editors, it could be a possible annoyance or perhaps a blessing that critics and the audience never specifically point out the editor’s contribution. On November 17th, 2016 from the hours of 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm, I had the opportunity to take part in a ride along with the Marietta police department.
