Vincent Van Gogh has played a major role in the way visual art is viewed as today. His ideas were new, profound, and thus changed the current convention of what “good” art truly means. Unlike the other impressionists of his era, Van Gogh was self-taught. In other words, his ideas were pure, and undiluted by those of an instructor. He traveled all over Europe, and impacted the art world with each of his paintings through divine compositions, emotion-evoking colors, and most of all, his ability to push the limits of artistic interpretation, setting a new example of individualism and passion. Van Gogh's salient contribution the visual arts comes from his compassionate drive to become a better painter. During the late 1870’s, Van Gogh’s life lacked passion and confidence. Two of his relationships ended unhappily, he worked unsuccessfully as a clerk in a bookstore, an art salesman, and also as a preacher in a destitute mining district in Belgium, where he was quickly dismissed (Gogh Biography). Capitalize on his depression. Being in a high level of depression, it weighed heavily on the way that Van Gogh drew and painted. As a result of his deep dissatisfaction of being unable to fit into society, Gogh began drawing the miners in Belgium using a dark color palette. This darkness reflects the worker’s antipathy for their monotonous and laborious lifestyle. A few of his paintings The Potato Eaters, The Bearers of the Burden, and Miners. All of these divine compositions reflect Gogh’s depressed state of mind, and the workers harsh conditions and lifestyle. This has impacted the way that people today paint. It helps people figure out how to put emotion in their paintings by the way of shading. We are only able to do this because Van gogh was able to greatly influence us with his amazing compositions, his use of vivid colors, and his ability to set an example for everyone to push past their comfort zones.
