Most parents always want the best for their children. Sometimes there love for their children can cause a lack of judgment. In today’s society, one of the biggest controversies is vaccinating a child. Parents that advocate for vaccinating their children refer to those who chose not to vaccinate as terrible parents. To the parents who do not vaccinate children, you are not a bad parent you are just misinformed. Learning about vaccinations from reliable sources would cause you to understand why vaccinating your child is necessity.
In our generation, the Internet allows us to have the world at our fingertips. Any information you ever need or want is just a Google search away. There is a mix of nearly 500 personal websites and blogs on search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, and Ask Jeeves. (Brazier) The Internet is one of the most powerful tools we have in this society. They could not be any more wrong. Herd immunity is when most of the population is immunized so the rest of the population is protected. Communities need to vaccinate at least 92% of the population for protection of the measles. USA Today reports that one in seven school document that vaccination rates are below 90%. (Szabo)
Even though you may think your child is only one student, so it will not make a difference to vaccinate, it will. If half of the parents at a school thought like that, and they believed vaccinations do more harm than good, the school could end up having fewer than 50% of the student body unvaccinated. If it ever got to that point, the unhealthy kids would be at a very high risk to catch the diseases.
