“GET OFF MY BUS. YOU HAVE TEN SECONDS TO GET YOUR THINGS, GET OFF MY BUS, AND GET ON THE FOOTPRINTS OUTSIDE.” It was the middle of the night, we had just arrived by bus from the airport and we were scared to death. Welcome to Marine Corps Recruiting Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina. This is a brief overview of Parris Island as seen through the eyes of Recruit Smith, Platoon 1040, B Company.
I made usual trek home this past weekend. With Morgantown being about 3 hours away from home, I unfortunately have to ride a charter bus. It’s basically a greyhound with an extensive amount of decals on the side that blows it name completely out of proportion
Immigration, the act of coming to live permanently in a foreign country. Throughout the United States’ history, immigrants faced various challenges and especially after 1880. Most immigrants moved to achieve the American dream of having a better life and pursuing their dreams. But, this experience as they moved, was different for every immigrant. Some lives improved while others did not. Immigrants such as Catholics, Italians, and the Chinese were not welcomed into America in the late 19th century and early 20th century because of their differences in beliefs and cultures.
I was previously employed full-time in LTC as a CPhT from 2006 until 2012. During my employment with the pharmacy, I reached the position of the chief CII (schedule 2 narcotics). Lynette Zorzi, 2nd technician. Presently, I no longer work full-time, but in order to maintain my certification, I still work occasional weekends in the data entry department. Recently, I had an opportunity to work an eight hour shift over the course of a weekend and I participated as a full member of this discourse community.
American was a prosperous country with incredible economic growth between the end of Reconstruction and the Great Depression. It was during this time that "industrial expansion went into high gear because increasing manufacturing efficiencies enabled American firms to cut prices and yet earn profits for financing still better equipment (Henretta 488)." During this era, the manufacturing of steel, the construction of railroads, factories, and warehouses, and the growing demand for technological advancements, increased greatly. Philanthropists, such as Andrew Carnegie, Andrew Mellon, and John D. Rockefeller, took advantage of the situation they were in by investing large sums of capital into the growing economy. Carnegie constructed an enormous steel mill outside of Pittsburgh that became one of the worlds' largest. Mellon started the Union Trust Fund in Pittsburgh, which developed in its later years to one of the largest financial institutions in the country. Rockefeller, who was involved in the petroleum industry, built the Standard Oil Company. Philanthropists were not the only group of people funding the growth of Corporate America. "The federal government, mainly interested in encouraging interregional development, provided financial credit and land grants (Henretta 490)." As a whole, the American economy was growing at an incredible rate. It was due to this growth that countless immigrants from Europe made their way over the Atlantic, as well as African Americans migrating from the South, both with hopes of improving their own standards of life.
The people who get deployed, has to pass a medical clearance, vision, dental, and hearing. All the clearance needs to be complicated 90 days before deployment. All the results will be sent to Camp Atterbury Joint Maneuver Training Center (cpms.osd.mil, 2016). After all the medical clearances, there is a training process to follow. The training includes command messages, security guidelines, and much more. There is a solider readiness program that everyone joins in ODT with 30 days before deployment. Each person getting deployed will be deployed at the home station (apd.army.mil, 2004). You have to go through the PTAE, which stands for Pre-mobilization Training and Assistance Elements, when that is completed then they head to a camp for mobilization. Once that has been completed they go to there assigned mission (Cashion, 2014). On medication you have to get a waiver from sent
The "American dream" is different for every person. To some it means financial success, to others it means freedom of expression, while others dream to practice their religion without fear. The "American dream" is a complex concept providing immigrants with the hope of better life. The U.S. government provides the environment and resources for everyone to pursue their dreams. Each year millions of people around the world apply for the Diversity Visa lottery program provided by the U.S. government, however only a few thousand people are lucky enough to come here. America is the place where people are judged by their achievements instead of having references or connections. Even though the American economy is in recession and the achieving of the American Dream is harder, many immigrants still achieve religious, political, financial, and sports dreams here in the U.S.

Since the start of the twentieth century America has attracted people all over the world to relocate and start a new life. For many coming to America was a chance for a better life and new things. They all had something in common, they all had a dream, that dream was the "American Dream". In the present day the desire to achieve the dream hasn't changed. However, the idea of the American Dream, brings up a lot of questions. What is the American Dream? Who defines it? Can it be achieved? Lastly, should everyone have a chance to achieve it?
Ronald Regan describes America as, “…a place in the divine scheme that was set aside as a promised land” (“Loosing the American Dream”). Do Regan’s words have any truth to them? How can America be a promised land when immigrants are still fighting for the chance to pursue the American Dream and social acceptance? Immigrants have different motives for coming to America some may seek citizenship for political freedoms that they once did not have due to uprising civil wars in their native country. Others may come for social freedoms that they were not awarded in their home country due to sexual orientation. Others may come for economic freedoms that allows them to go from rags to riches. No matter the reason, immigrants risk everything for a chance to pursue the American dream. So why is it so hard for immigrants to earn a spot as a citizen of the United States of America? Why are immigrants still facing narrow-mindedness criticism for being foreign? It is time for Americans to change their prejudice views of immigrants.

I really need a vacation!” Is there a more common phrase in the workplace today? I’m sure all of us have uttered that phrase at least once in the last 12 months. Americans are so vacation-deprived, then why is it that almost a third of the American working adults are giving up some earned vacation this year, and when they do go on vacation they still do some work by checking in with office communications, according to a Harris Interactive vacation-related poll? The following table below indicates that the U.S. ranks 10th in terms of average number of vacation days around the world per year, with the average of just 13 days per year compared to the United Kingdom’s 28, and Italy’s 42 days per year.
Stacey was next to add something. “You are my best friend in the whole world, and you know I’ve told you many times how much I love you, so I can’t give any reasons what’s wrong with this picture, there just is. I don’t ever want to lose you as my best friend. Nothing more was said. They fell asleep like that. It was a good thing they got up before the rest of the family because they would never have heard the end of it. The United States Congress moved the Memorial Day holiday to the last Monday in May in 1968. It may have been so close to summer vacation it already felt that way, but there was a school day for Stacey and Arlene until just before their graduation days. Ann and Christopher had regular classes, too, and even a normal
