In many films the protagonist who is the main character, helps viewers to understand the main themes or messages in greater depth. In the film “V” for vendetta, the main character “V” highlights and reinforces the main messages and themes for viewers through his point of view. In “V” for Vendetta, “V” the protagonist takes viewers through a variety of themes such as the fear that society had over government. The Revenge that “V” wanted for himself and the people. Freedom for society and Showing people that Identity is an important part of every person.

The topic of fear is a common component, that is seen throughout the film, and affected the people of Britain greatly. In the film “V” for vendetta, fear is shown a lot throughout the film. People feared their government, one another and the world. Many were scared too speak up, or do anything that would be seen as a inadequate response towards the government. “Happiness is the most insidious prison of all,” we gain knowledge about just how much people feared their government, and felt like prisoners and were afraid to be themselves in the country they lived in. Being happy was not an option, and was instead taken and filled with fear, this became normal for society to experience this, no one questioned or disobeyed the government, because fear took over them.

“Fear got the best of you and in your panic, you turned to now High Chancellor Adam Sutler. He promised you order. He promised you peace. And in return demanded your silent, obedient consent,” we understand from this example fear was a great part of society, and took over their lives. ... and fight to gain back their identity and true being. Having an identity makes people feel apart of something bigger, and understand what it means to be the real you and not to hide who you are, or let fear get the best of you.

“V” who is the protagonist in the film “V” for Vendetta, allows viewers to take a trip into what life was like for him and the people of Britain during the take over by the government. “V” took us through themes of fear, revenge, freedom and identity, he showed us how all of these things had such a extensive impact on society. “V” helped people to understand that they only have each other, an can only stand up together, if they want to do something about the government control. With all of “V’s” experiences he showed people, to believe and to never let fear get the best of you, always stand as a united front, and you can accomplish anything.
