Why are many public schools just now beginning to embrace computer literacy and technology?”(Hughes) This article stresses the need for community schools in the United States to start using computers. The absence of funding is the reason behind the delay in schools’ use of computer technology; “National Science Foundation tasked with development of plan for national computer literacy; Introduction of the microcomputer in 1981; Donation by Apple and International Business Machines of computers to schools.”
Andrew Zucker examines computer use in the United States in both elementary and secondary education. It addresses issues such as teacher training, technology availability at home and in schools, and current technology projects that were ongoing at this time. The article ends by discussing computer usage in schools in a larger context, which provides a different perspective on educational technology.
Over the past few decades, technology has advanced significantly. The use of calculators, computers, and other techniques in many fields has increased. On a large scale, technology is replacing traditional methods of instruction in the field of education. Many people believe that adopting technology in the learning process can increase productivity. However, David Gelernter, a professor at Yale University and a leading figure in the field of technology, suggests limiting the use of technology in the classroom in his article “Unplugged: The Myth of Computers in the Classroom,” published in the New Republic magazine in 1994.
To begin with, before anyone can develop an opinion as to whether technology is a useful tool in the classroom, one needs to understand that technology plays an important role in today’s world. However, the use or over-use of technology in educating young children in teaching literacy to young children is a much debated theory. There are many opinions regarding the positive influence technology can have as a useful tool in the classroom, yet there are those, like myself, who also see the negative aspect of too much technology.

This in the future can make a big change in what people know is a school, a university, and college. For some people technology appliances like an IPad, a laptop or a TV, are an aid for learning faster and avoiding time looking into big books for an answer. For people technology is not an aid, it avoids contact with nature, it does everything for you and even if that is good in some aspects, students or kids can start being dependent on it and make them forget that they can do things on their own. Most schools have science or biology class, that talks about nature or topics that study the laws that surround us, like the gravity or Newton´s laws. In the case of nature, students and kids should go out and have contact with it, learning and questioning why nature is like that.

Fore example, it has been reported in 2008, the average number of computers in primary, secondary, and special schools in England increases annually.
Technology has rapidly changed over the years and has expanded our infrastructure greatly. In particular, as technology advances the education system adapts to the many changes. The world of technology brings about many new improvements and shows no sign of slowing down. Many people spend their day to day lives utilizing the great aspects of technology doing almost anything imaginable. Through technology teachers and students can connect and expound upon the many fields of education. Technology is an ever growing aid in education that has increased awareness, communication, and accessibility. How is technology shaping education? The uses of mobile devices and applications have shown a great influence in the education system.
Internet access in schools has experienced an extreme increase within the last decade. By the fall of the year 2000, 98% of the public schools throughout the United States reported to be connected to the Internet (NCES, 2000). This is a reported 63% increase since the year 1994. Also in 2000, the ratio of computers to students was one to six, an increase from the 1994 ratio of one computer for every eleven students (Mendels, 1999). Aside from having Internet access in school libraries and computer labs, the abundance in individual classrooms has dramatically increased. This allows for Internet learning to be more readily available to students on a daily basis. Statistically over 70% of schools have this access in at least one of their classrooms (Mendels, 1999).
As time goes by, advances in technology will provide more and more avenues for learning by way of the computer. The Internet has opened the doors of the world and unleashed limitless possibilities in research and education. It may be only a matter of time when the classroom is brought online to all children and attending a school classroom outside the home is a thing of the past. Looking back over the last 20 years, I never would have imagined that computers would come this far and impact our lives so much. Just imagine where they will be 20 years from now.
... all ages do not know how to write in cursive anymore. Some students may not know how to sign their name in cursive since it wont be taught anymore. One thing that many people worry about with digital learning is that students will spend too much time in front of a screen and keyboard. It is believed that these kids will have less of a social life and will be less likely to communicate through talking, but choosing to communicate through online messaging and texting. Though students have a variety of information at their finger tips, this can cause temptation for students to plagiarize. Devices such as iPads and laptops are useful learning tools, but at the same time they can be a huge source of distractions. While students should be taking notes, they could be browsing the web, updating social media sites, watching videos, playing games or other distracting things.

Children growing up in this generation are experiencing a greater impact from computers than in the past. In the past, children and adult, could make a life without a computer, as it wasn’t a necessity or found to be all that useful from time to time. A higher level of dependency on these computers has been established, and society only has more to come in the future. The technology that comes with these complex machines is becoming more developed and is making everyday tasks simpler for most. Computers have changed our nation in many ways, from the way we operate to the accessibility of worldwide resources such as the Internet we use frequently today. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the fluctuation of the influence of computers on a child’s education in their early years, as it has been in the past, how it is in the present, and how it might be in the future.
