Using An Effective Teacher Evaluation System In The 20th Century

Teacher evaluations have significantly changed and improved over the past decade. The new evaluation systems are based on student success and professional growth. Effective teachers have many of the same traits in common and should be assessed for success for these qualities. Highly qualified and accomplished teachers share educational equity practices, they are culturally sensitive, they hold their students to high expectations while accommodating for individual needs through the appropriate use of technology, and maintain a collaborative classroom atmosphere where students are given a shared responsibility for their own success (Danielson, 2012). The new evaluations help teachers improve in these areas and to refine their craft. In addition, these teachers recognize, “that the work of ensuring meaningful learning opportunities for all student cannot happen in isolation, they engage in collaboration, continuous reflection, on-going learning and leadership within the profession” (CDE, 2016-17). These teachers deserve an evaluation system that matches their level of dedication and professionalism. An effective teacher evaluation system must be based on set and transparent teaching standards, include student learning in marriage to teaching practice, be conducted by trained evaluators, paired with feedback and professional growth opportunities, value and promote teacher collaboration, include teacher input, and be regulated by panels of teachers…show more content…
