The United States of America has become the greatest superpower on earth, but this has not always been true. The 2nd president of the Unites States had an immeasurable amount of influence in making this a reality. John Adams was born in 1735 in Braintree, Massachusetts (DeGregorio, 1991, pg. 21). He was deemed as the “colossus of independence” by many leaders and authors (McCullough, 2001, pg. 125). John Adams was a visionary leader who shaped the direction of the United States of America in his early years, but succumbed to unethical behavior once he was in the White House as the President of the United States. The first main point will determine his visionary leadership by using the Personal Profile System, Kirton’s Adaption-Innovation Theory, Critical Thinking, Full Range Leadership Development, Team Building, Ethical leadership and books by David McCullough and William A. DeGregorio. These references will also be used to determine his self awareness according to the author. The second main point will use the same references to include Diversity to determine where his self awareness and possible unethical motives were as the President. Finally, within the third main point, the author will merge all the information together to synthesize the items to derive a conclusion about John Adams and how it is relevant to the author. The conclusion will encompass the essay and provide a complete synopsis. John Adams was a Harvard law graduate (McCullough, 2001, pgs. 35-37), a member of the Massachusetts Legislature, member of the Continental Congress and was the defending colonial lawyer of the 8 British soldiers who committed the Boston Massacre (DeGregorio, 1991, pgs. 24-26). Visionary or ethical leadership is nothing to take lightly. The essay has explored President Adams as a visionary leader and an unethical leader once in the white house. President Adams is included as one our founding fathers with great ideas, beliefs and used his influence to gain power and later used his dominance to try to control the members around him making him a power hungry individual who was only worried about his self image. Researching President Adams allowed me to see myself differently as I move up the chain of command and learn to stretch myself for the betterment of the unit, mission, vision and people. The United States of America has become the greatest superpower on Earth because of the visionary leadership of many individuals, but significantly a short round man who saw the future before the revolution.
