There are several reasons involved in the explanation of the UAE’s quest for a nuclear program. These include the requirement to meet the nation’s increasing demand for energy as well as the attainment of the country’s developmental goals. In addition, the development of a nuclear programme is tied in with the national goal of diversifying the economic base and bringing about the full industrialisation of the United Arab Emirates. The significance of the issue to be tackled resides in the fact that endeavours exerted by the nation’s leadership to develop a nuclear programme have not been fully explained due to the sensitive nature of the topic.
