The health care industry is one that is completely different when compared to other business sector of a country. Most importantly, It deals with lives, therefore quality and safety measures must be top priority for health professionals and everyone involved in the patient’s care. At the same token, measuring health care quality and safety could prove difficult to do. In return, health organization may decide to focus on improving various processes in place: aiming to reduce the margin of error in a patient’s health treatment. A major way to strengthen and enhance these processes is to encourage patients to communicate – Speak up, not only about their health, but also about their experience in a hospital. According to Spath (2013), “ Healthcare facilities have had safety programs in place for many years.” The purpose of these programs is to provide an environment in which hazards are eliminated and minimized or employees, staff, patients, and visitors. (Spath 2013). These three hospitals include Doctors Community Hospital, Prince Georges Hospital Center, and Washington Adventist Hospital. The facility is located in Cheverly, Maryland and was founded in 1944. Prince George’s Hospital Center is a member of Dimensions Healthcare System, it offers a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient, medical and surgical services. The hospital accepts Medicare and Medicaid as forms of payment, in addition to be certified by the state of Maryland. Lastly, Washington Adventist Hospital is a faith-based, not-for-profit organization. Washington Adventist Hospital is a subsidiary of Adventist health care. Although all three facilities are acute care hospitals in my local region, Adventist HealthCare have numerous hospital that are recognized nationally for the high-quality care provided to patients.
I analyzed how each hospital measures up when rated on the following indicators: Patient experiences, Readmission Rates, and Timely and Effective Care from Medicare.gov
