What comes to mind when you think of Africa? The exotic animals, the African culture with tribal dances, and all of the beautiful people, but do people ever think about the country Uganda? Uganda is located in eastern Africa, and is molded by its deep rooted cultural history that speaks the two official languages, English and Swahili. The people of Uganda are strong with the desire to live, but are weakened by the immense loss of healthcare. Uganda’s way of life is much different than the lives in America, and will awaken the eyes of the viewers.
Uganda had gained their independence from their father-country, Britain in 1962, but the new government that was created was equally filled with conflict and disagreement. One of the ruthless leaders of Uganda’s government was Idi Amin. Amin slayed massive amounts of oppressive people in the years 1971 through 1979.The government was so disrupted with uneven hierarchy that even after Idi Amin had left his rule, the peace was not restored fully. Later on in the mid-19th century, the Arab slave trade grew to its peak when the slaves aided in the flourishing population of Uganda’s people. The people who were bought for slavery labored in French owned sugar and tobacco fields on the islands in the Indian Ocean. Native people who lived in Northern Uganda were taken by the tens-of-thousands to once again be slaves for another region. When this happened, the northern Ugandan people were separated and arranged by living status, age, gender, and spiritual prowess.
The next governmental leader that Uganda was equipped with was Yoweri Museveni who was a leader of the National Resistance Army (NRA). His governmental assets re-strengthened Uganda’s worn economy which was based on agricultural indus...

The people who live in Uganda live a much different life than the people who live in America; their lives are more structured on the mindset of survival, rather than the mindset of popularity or wealth. Uganda had to reconstruct their population as well as the culture when the tragic historical events took place in the 1900’s. Even from the beginning, Uganda struggled to survive and is still struggling with the amounts of fatalities from the lack of medical care and cleanliness. Yet, all of the people who have experienced what the people of Uganda have experienced will forever be changed and humbled to the mercy of our Creator.
