How many friends does a man really need? Joseph Addison states, “The road to hell may be paved with good intentions, but the road to manhood is littered with difficult obstacles along the way” It is fortunate that men do not have to embark on the journey alone. What is a friendship? How can one categorize the meaning of a friendship? Friendship is the relationship of mutual affection between two or more people. There are many forms of friendship, some which may vary from location and age. Men have different types of friends and they are all a reflection of how close they are. On Facebook a one may have over a thousand friends but in reality his friends are more personal to him.

The first type of friend males have is known as the childhood friend, which begins at an earlier time in their life. This particular friend is important in any man’s life because this longtime friend has been around through the various stages of his life. A guy and a childhood friend are not necessarily close anymore although, when he forgets the details of his past he is the friend to call to fill in the blanks. However, when they do talk it might not be about politics instead they can prattle on the phone reminiscing about the old girls they dated and they trouble they used to get into. He holds all the embarrassing stories and secrets, so he might not be the best person to speak in the wedding. Although they have been friends for years, they do not have much in common anymore like they once did. Childhood friends play a special role in a man’s life, they are the one that hold the memories to your childhood. A guy values the relationship he has with his old friend and when in need of help he knows his friend will always be around.

Proceed with caution when it comes to this friend known as the “Female Friend”, his friend of the opposite sex. She is emotional and can be crazy though he looks to her for clarity on the thought process of a women. The friend is not necessarily close in all aspects but he looks for her in need of advice. She has all the in site into the female mind so when he is going through girl problems she is the one to ask.
