Two Successful People The word success has different meanings to people. Some people see success as wealth or perhaps an entrepreneur who turned his or her vision into a successful reality. Creating and building a successful company from the ground up. According to Maxwell (2002), “Success is a journey. …success is knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others.” Respectively, this paper will examine the journey of the late George W. Jenkins, founder of Publix Super Markets and my friend, Brandi Callum, an entrepreneur, and also a real estate broker. My definition of success is not based on being a wealthy person on the contrary, it is based on ones' positive attitudes, actions, trustworthiness and strong character demonstrated while dealing with the many challenges of life. For me, being able to focus as well as maneuver through adversities and succeed are key components of being a successful person. The late George W. Jenkins and Brandi Callum are prime examples, and they have different success stories. Mr. George Jenkins journey started by chance. He was the manager of a Piggly Wiggly grocery store in Winter Haven, Florida. This was during the time of The Great Depression in 1930. The high unemployment, along with the collapse of the bank, and stock market created a negative effect on Piggy Wiggly's bottom line or sales. George's store was eventually sold to a businessman in Atlanta. After weeks of waiting, for the new owner to visit, he decided to visit the new owner in Atlanta. On arriving, he was told that the new owner was too busy to meet with him. Mr. George however, overheard the new owner's conversation and rea... ... middle of paper ... ... seeing these unskilled workers who had no confidence or self esteem, transformed into confident skilled workers. Ms. Callum, truly an extraordinaire. These two people accomplished their goals against all odds. They did not compromise their beliefs or convictions. Instead they mobilized everyone around them by their actions. It is a known precept in the business world, that once followers can see and believe in the vision, they usually focus on attaining the goal. This always lead to a positive outcome. What is the definition of true success? Everyone has his or her own definition of success. For me success is to have earned the appreciation of honest critics and tolerate the betrayal of deceptive friends and most importantly being self-reliant. Some great writers have their own special wise thoughts on prosperity, for example, in Self- Reliance and Other Essays “Self-Reliance”, by Waldo Ralph Emerson suggest we all need to be individuals and put ourselves before anyone else. However, in Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell, he gives a different meaning of prosperity. He claims success is never the result of talent alone. Both of the writers Emerson and Gladwell have similar and different thoughts on what makes a content opulence and self-reliant
Success is a very personalized term. It can be defined in many different ways and like itself there are also many ways to achieve it. Success is a term that everyone has a different opinion on but one thing remains the same: we all want to be successful. We all want to be good at the things we desire most. Two great activists for the cause of success are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Greg Plitt. Both are men who demand great respect. Not only for being at the top of their classes but for also going beyond that and topping many of the ranks for things they are passionate about. Their success not only was noticed but radiated into the minds of people and children everywhere inspiring them to be great. Though they may have their differences both men
´´ If one advances confident in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life he imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours. ’’ These words were spoken by Henry David Thoreau.Success is within the mind of the individual. A large portion of one´s life is spent working to become successful. People are told throughout childhood to work hard so they can grow up and achieve all of their dreams. But success takes many different forms. Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. It does not matter how related they are to each other in certain áreas they always have a different point of view of what success really is. For some success is measured by social status and wealth
Success is not earning a fat juicy check at the end of each month, or being a part of a large social group filled with fraudulent people that appear as familiar faces. But it is a person discovering him or herself after they had been lost and establishing a sense of purpose that makes them fills them with a warm glowing sense of accomplishment. Success does not have one transparent definition, it has various meanings depending on what success means to the individual trying to achieve it. Success is surviving.
When someone asks me how I define success I think of people. Enjoying what they do, not afraid of failing , and accomplishing their goals are qualities I look for in people. Not just making money defines someone as successful, but if someone can make good money and accomplish their goals then that would be perfect. Michael Jordan, Allen Iverson, and Jimmy Butler are people I think of when someone mentions success because they make good money and love what they do.
Success can be an extremely broad subject. There is an abounding amount of different views on what the “true” definition of success is. Personally, I believe that success is finding happiness. Success is waking up in the morning and not having to worry about whether or not the bills are going to be paid this month. Success is having a job that you enjoy going to every day. Success is having friends and family who love and support you. Success does not mean that one has to be exceedingly rich or have a lakeside mansion. As long as they are happy, they have succeeded in life.
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be successful? Some people are not born into success or wealth. Many successful entrepreneurs had a vision they turned into reality. Samuel Truett Cathy is one prime example of a man who lived out his convictions. An inventor of the beast-of-chicken sandwich, mall counter service in the days before food courts and Sunday closing as a policy, Truett Cathy celebrated his 80th birthday in 2001. Many might think of him as a true modern-day role model and hero. Some sees him as the Chick-fil-a man. From his book “It’s Easier to Succeed than to Fail”, Cathy represented a real-life case history showing that a determined and energetic entrepreneur can overcome anything. Cathy stated, “ The secret to success is not secret at all. It is very obvious, but we are too often blinded to the truth.” (Cathy, p. 191)
What is success and who warrants it? Is it simply the accomplishments of a goal or a purpose? Perhaps it’s measured with being happy, productive, healthy or wise. Success seems to include an assortment of variables and often changes in accordance with life’s cycles. Regarding business, an accurate assessment of success is linked to
Everyone can think of at least one person whom they think has reached success in their life. However, the perception of the word “success” is different for everyone. Let’s take Bill Gates as an example. Many people think he is successful in being the creator of Microsoft. Most people associate Bill Gates’ degree of successfulness with his astonishing net worth of 83.6 billion dollars. And few think he is successful in being a businessman that market products or services that solve people's problems. His extensive knowledge, monetary asset value and willingness to advance people with the use of technology are all ways that society defines the degree that somebody has to succeed. However, is this the best way to measure success? The answer is
When we imagine a successful person, we see a person, who is working on some company and is busy working all the time. This person has a nice car and beautiful apartment or house, where he does not spend much time because he is so busy. We get this impression since we were born. Movies, magazines, and news – everything supports this notion of a successful person.

Ever since the times of the BC era, wealth had defined success (Definition of Success). A wealthy person of those times would be looked at as a superior being, they would be someone you’d show respect for. They were successful. Although that's the definition of success back then, does it mean something different now? Like every human being, and every past structure of society, the word evolves with time because society's’ values change. The definition of the word “success” was often considered as the achievement of wealth, but now it has become modernized to fit into today's society. Today, success is thought as an individual doing what makes them happy in life, generally doing their best, or even contributing positive things to the world to make it a better place (What does success mean).

The path to achieving great success is not easy. Whereas there are many shortcuts, the long and patient walk is what takes a person many miles ahead.
