The climax occurs when Manley refuses to give Hulga’s artificial leg. This event in the story displays Manley’s true intentions and later leads to Manley stealing the leg. I think the artificial leg could represent Hulga’s soul. The story has a lot of religion mentioned since Hulga was an atheist and Manley was a Bible salesman.
