It is of interest to research whether there are any scientifically proven benefits of turmeric in patients with Parkinson’s disease (PD), which is a progressive, incurable, neurological disease. Dopamine neurons in the brains with PD patients die-off and do not regenerate. Current medications for PD are unable to prevent neurodegeneration (Mythri). Turmeric is a spice used commonly in the east and has been used for over 4,000, both a flavor enhancer to food and for medicinal purposes. Turmeric is a bright yellow, very strong smelling powder that is taken from the root of the turmeric plant which is in the ginger family. However, the research that has been done shows overall that turmeric in the powder form is not generally toxic to humans. However, according to Drugs.com a daily dose of 8 grams per day or more could cause some adverse gastrointestinal effects. Turmeric does have at least one contraindication, it has the ability to increase the bile which will cause excessive pain in people with gallstones and general discomfort for others. Therefore, patients with choleithiasis (aka gallstones) should avoid turmeric (Asher). It should be noted that the actual ingredient in Turmeric that is thought to be beneficial in a medical capacity is the “curcumin”. It is difficult to get enough curcumin into one’s diet, so it necessary for medical testing purposes to extract the curcumin chemically from the turmeric root. The chemical makeup of curcumin is C21H20O6.

Parkinson's disease is a neurological disorder that is named after "the English physician who first described it fully in 1817" (4). The disease causes disturbances in the motor functions resulting in patients having trouble moving. Other characteristics that are not always present in every patient are tremors and stiffening of limbs. All of these characteristics, of the disease are caused by "degeneration of a group of nerve cells deep within the center of the brain in an area called the substantia nigra" (5). Dopamine is the neurotransmitter for these cells to signal other nerve cells. However as the cluster of nerve cells fail to operate, the dopamine can not reach the areas of the brain that affects one's motor functions (5). On average Parkinson's patients have "less than half as much dopamine in their systems as healthy people do" (8). The problem and controversy that arises from this disease is in the cure. Researchers, for years, have been attempting to unravel the mystery of what causes Parkinson's disease and how it can be treated and or cur...
Amaranth is an ancient super plant, native of Peru, and has been cultivated as a grain for thousands of years. Parkinson 's disease is a chronic progressive neurological disorder in which cells are slowly lost in the brain over the years. The fact that cells are lost makes it a neurodegenerative disorder fitting in the same category as Alzheimer disease. A person with Parkinson’s disease can also experience a wide range of physical and psychological symptoms, including depression, constipation, problems sleeping (insomnia), loss of sense of smell (anosmia) and memory problems. Turmeric has many different heart benefits due to the active curcumin. Researchers at the University of Toronto have found out that the curcumin helps stop many different reactions in the enlargement of the heart chambers or cardiac hypertrophy. It is also believed to help stop or reduce inflammation and fibrosis. Another study was conducted in Japan and it was found that the curcumin also helps the reduction of cardiac hypertrophy by creating healthy measurements of blood pressure. Curcumin acts as an anti-inflammatory which is the cause of many different conditions. This is why turmeric makes a good heart healthy diet plan.

He has told me of the most wonderful tales. Of popping colors and stiflingly sweet senses. He grows his garden beneath the suns bright visage. I buy roses from him to leave at their feet. He's my rosarian from halfway down the street. Pouring himself into their unwavering beauty, always loyal to him as they go about their growing day to day to day.

Some authors reported that the plant may induce liver disease, while others found that it protects against liver damage caused by heavy metals. Toxicities of the plant may vary among cultivars and are dose dependent, an effect possibly related to pulegone.

Ginger has been known to have tremendous anti-inflammatory effects. It contains gingerols, which is a potent anti-inflammatory compound that is believed to reduce the pain levels for people who have arthritis. Ginger also helps in improving the mobility of arthritic patients particularly does who are suffering from osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis. In studies conducted in patients who responded to conventional drugs and those who didn’t, researchers found that 75% of arthritis patients and 100% of patients suffering with muscular discomfort experienced relief in swelling and pain. Other neurodegenerative diseases can also be aided by ginger’s ability to inhibit the production of nitrous oxide and proinflammatory cytokines.
