The Mirabal sisters names were Patria, Bélgcia, Minerva, and María Mirabal. The three sisters that were involved in the resistance group against El Rafael Trujillo were Patria, Minerva, and María named ”The Butterfly Sisters”, they lived in the Dominican Republic in a town called Salcedo “Ciabo”. While People thought they could be ignorant, The Butterfly sister’s were responsible for being brave and taking a stand for their country because they Inspired people to do what they believe and what they think is right. They didn't mind giving up their lives for the people around them, and they helped to show people how bad El Trujillo really is. In 1930 a Man named Rafael Leónidas Trujillo was elected, he was known for his dictatorship. During his
Trujillo felt threatened by the sisters, not only did they oppose him secretly but publicly as well. On June 14, 1954 the Butterfly sisters were apart of the Dominican Liberation Movement. On this day they attempted to overthrow El Trujillo, but unfortunately the plan failed due to some leaked information which led Trujillo to find out. The sisters were given their name by continuing to revolt against El Trujillo. The Butterfly Sisters took a stand when no one else would. They were dauntless, audacious, and astonishing. These girls were different, they stood out to Trujillo and this made him furious. The butterfly sisters were the country's inspiration. Yet another rebellious group was formed, the name is still unknown. Trujillo ended up Jailing them and the butterfly sisters but soon released everyone except the sisters husbands. Trujillo then realized that the only way to remove the sisters influence on the people was to kill them. On November 25, 1960 The three sisters went to visit their husbands. Little did they know that on their way back the would be murdered. Trujillo had set up a trap, he arranged for SIM to take them pretty far back into Sugar Cane field and had them each murdered individually. It is said that the men used machetes but not proven. After they were killed they were placed back into the jeep and it was pushed off a cliff to make it seem like an
The men involved in the Butterfly sister's murder were Víctor Alicinio Peña Rivera, Ciriaco de la Rosa, Ramón Emilio Rojas, Alfonso Cruz Valeria, and Emilio Estrada Malleta. Most of the men in SIM were old friends of Trujillo. Trujillo made sure that he chose the men in the group wisely, the men in the group couldn’t be afraid to murder innocent people. It is said but not a proven fact that some of the men involved in the butterfly sister’s death were also apart of Trujillo's. After El Trujillo was overthrown the men from SIM were arrested and thrown into Jail. The fourth sister Dedé took in all of her sister's children and continued raising them as her own. One of Dedé’s son’s was elected as Vice President of the Dominican Republic. Minerva’s daughter managed to make congresswoman and was elected four times. As of right the Butterfly Sister's home was turned into a museum. There are also many different memorials in memory of them. November 25 is officially an International Anti-Violence day for women in honor of them. The second oldest sister Dedé passed away on February 1, 2014, fifty-four years after her sisters. She was eighty-eight years
