True Colors In High Schools

True colors - two small words that can mean so little yet show so much. In high school, people change; they open themselves into new groups of friends, find new interests, favorite subjects, etc. I guess you could say their ‘true colors’ come out during these years. The current requirement of high school is four years, but if students were instead given five years, imagine how much more chaos would occur. But then again, think about how the students would deal with it; some would cope well with the delirious amount of stress, while others would simply give up. I believe that educators should expand the high school time to five years, because it gives the students more time to achieve all that is expected of them, and it shows if they are determined and serious about their school work. “Five years of high school is not meant to penalize students, but to offer them the chance to gain college credit while still in high school,” therefore it would cause no harm (Chew). Having ‘too much school’ is never a reason to give up, and it should not be used as an excuse by any means. Adding on one extra year of high school would better prepare the students for their college career. For example, if they were unable to reach the required amount of credits within their four years, an extra year would be beneficial towards them. On the other hand, if some eager students had all of their credits, that extra year would show colleges that although they were already prepared, they managed to push themselves to do just as good during that fifth year. Also, students would have the ability to join an extra activity during the fifth year, which could help them for college (when applying for college and managing their time in college).
