Assessing Project Success: Moving Beyond the Triple Constraint (A Critique Paper by HAZEL A. TRAPERO) ABSTRACT This paper aimed to assess the project’s positive outcome including, but not limited to the ideal and pre-defined operational demand or the so-called conventional constraint which composed of the scope, schedule, and budget. By simply visiting some of the researched textbooks, articles, journals and literature, it was found out that the project 's success varies depending on who are working on it and how the stakeholders engage in it though it was primarily described based on the triple constraint approach. In fact, during the conduct of the study, several added factors were identified to also affect the project outcome like the …show more content…

One is that it has been reprehended as being conceptualized from the contractor’s point of view. Another was that it does not completely deliver guiding thoughts to the project manager on how to improve the budgeting or schedule for the betterment of the design. Lastly, it has disregarded the rudimentary truth of an Information System (IS) activity. In addition, PM textbooks clearly tell us that project success is about satisfying the functional demands on scope, time, and budget. Thus, this paper aimed to assess the existing concept of an IS project success and visit the different issues and concerns arising from the recent concept and tried to find out its impact to any project made by an individual or a team. Specifically, this paper wanted to find out if there are still some other components and needs to adjudge the outcome of a …show more content…

This initiative could be advantageous to the students since all these years, they were just taught that the basis for a project 's success is the “triple constraint” not knowing that there are still lots of components that are also necessary for the said success. This paper could present to them the different perceptivities that should be taken into consideration in achieving the positive output of the design, like evaluating the importance of the stakeholders ' views on the design and reviewing the financial analysis. This paper could also widen the project manager 's views on how to effectively do the budgeting and well-planned schedule by considering other factors that are equally important as the “triple constraint” approach and face the challenge of letting the non-IT managers to fully understand an IT artifact. This could be very helpful for them since they are tasked to fit in the expectancies of the project stakeholders. Moreover, the project team could benefit on this paper by being apprehensive that the conventional criteria set is not the only avenue to achieve success anymore. They must look at the other approaches to have a great chance of success. Lastly, this could be beneficial to the user community because they would know that when they need a system, they would focus on having
