Matthew 6:16-18 declares, “When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do, for they disfigure their faces to show men they are fasting. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” In looking into the King James Bible we look at the book of Matthew and how it is refereing to fasting, Jewish tradition is what this Christianity faith is derived from and the fasting aspect is just one more facet that this faith follows. In this particular verse “hypocrites” is meaning for the word actor, which would …show more content…
In Christianity God is a trinity of persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Trinity is not three gods in one god, nor is it one person who took three forms. Trinitarianism is strictly mono-theistic. There is no other God in existence. The Lord God and Allah are not the same. In Islam God is known as Allah. Allah is one person, a strict unity. There is no other God in existence. He is the creator of the universe (3:191), sovereign over all (6:61-62). This is one split in these two religions where there is a huge void left for debate. In terms of Afterlife, Jesus in both religions does NOT play any sort of a role, In Christianity Jesus is a huge part of the faith, in Islam Jesus is a great prophet, second only to Muhammad. Jesus is not the son of God (9:30), not divine (5:17, 75) and was not crucified (4:157). Some say he will come back to earth as a Muslim, marry and have children, die, and be buried near Muhammad (19:33-34). As known to the Christian faith it is very well known that Jesus is in fact the son of God, He is the second person of the Trinity. He is the word who became flesh (John 1:1, 14). He is both God and man (Col.
Islam and Christianity have different scriptures, with Christianity using Bible and Islam the Quran. An account of works and life of Jesus are offered by both texts. Islamic theology’s important part is belief in Jesus, and Muslims consider the Christian Gospels as changed, while Christians view Gospels to be commanding and the Quran to be a late, apocryphal or fabricated work. Though the two religions believe in Jesus’s virgin birth, the Quaranic and Biblical accounts differ.
Christianity is considered “two religious”, which contains “head” and “heart” (Tallon, 113). “Head” is relate to cool and rational practices of Christianity, and “heart” is the “warm and emotional” practices. Apollo, the god of reason, represents “form, structure, rational thoughts”, and Dionysian represents “enthusiasm and ectasy”(Tallon,114). Christain’s thoughts varied because they have different approaches to Christianity. Some people would interact with Christianity by having in rational ways, such as watching a sculpture of Jesus since it takes serious thinking to build a formal image of Jesus. Some people interact with Christianity by emotional approaches, for example, some christians would sing psalms which appeals to instinctive chaotic emotions. The emotions in Christianity plays an “interactive” role because it allows christians communicate with each other.
Christian views on Islam are diverse and range from considering Islam a fellow Abrahamic religion worshipping the same God, to believing Islam to be heresy or an unrelated cult. Christianity and Islam both consider Jesus to have been sent by God. Christians generally consider Jesus to be the Son of God, while Muslims consider the Trinity to be a division of God 's Oneness and a grave sin (shirk). Christianity and Islam have different scriptures, with Islam using the Quran and Christianity the Bible. Both texts offer an account of the life and works of Jesus. Belief in Jesus is an important part of Islamic theology, and Muslims view the Christian Gospels as altered, while Christians consider Gospels to be authoritative and the Quran to be a later, fabricated or apocryphal work. Both religions believe in the virgin birth of Jesus, but the Biblical and Quranic accounts
experiences and its beliefs developed over time about sin, salvation, grace, faith and so forth.2
...did not die’. Islam belief in human nature is also different from Christianity; but the same in Judaism, that human nature has the equal ability to do good or evil. Means of salvation in Islam is closely the same to the other Abrahamic beliefs. In addition, good and bad afterlife beliefs are closely related as well. Interestingly, Christianity views Islam as a false religion and Islam views Judaism and Christianity as ultimately having wrong beliefs and ‘only partial revelation’. Ultimately, these Abrahamic religions are the most influential religions in the world. Their impact on the world is very deep and all trace their history to Abraham in the Hebrew Bible. The brief overview of the similarities and differences of the three monotheistic faiths enables people to enrich or at least receive a concrete vision of what can possibly come with death and the afterlife.
Christian fasting is more than denying he or herself food or something else of the flesh – it’s a sacrificial lifestyle before God. In Isaiah 58, a “true fast is not just a one-time act of humility and denial before God; it is a lifestyle of servant ministry to others. Isaiah tells us, fasting encourages humility, loosens the chains of injustice, unties the chords of the yoke, frees the oppressed, feeds the hungry, provides for the poor, and clothes the naked. (Isaiah 58: 1-9). The concept of Christian fasting isn’t a one-day thing – it’s a lifestyle of servant living for God and others.
The conception of God in Christianity, Judaism, and Islam is monotheism, the belief in the existence of a single indivisible God. The three of religions maintains that there is only one God, who is active in and concerned about the world. These religions are also patriarchal, male-dominated, which has resulted in God being described as “He.” However, how Christians, Judaism and Islam conceptualize God in their respective theologies is actually quite different. In Christianity, God is the supreme creator and ruler of the universe. Christians believe God is infinite, omnipotent, all-powerful, perfect, personal, eternal, unchanging, holy, all-knowing, and all-loving. Their idea of God is shown in the belief of the Trinity. God is one, but with three aspects: God is Father, the creator, ruler, and sustainer of all life, and divine judge; God is the Son, who is Jesus, God made incarnate and savior of humanity; and the Holy Spirit, who is God working in the world. Both Muslims and Christians love and respect Jesus, however, the major difference between Islam and Christianity is the Christians insistence on the supposed divinity of Christ. In Christian scriptures, God never claimed divinity while the emphasis in the Islamic theology of God is “absolute unity;” God is sublimely one. Muslims think that by believing in the Trinity, Christians believe in three Gods. For them, God is One God. Judaism views the existence of God as a necessary prerequisite for the existence of the universe, and the existence of the universe is sufficient proof of the existence of God.
...t. While Christians believe that Christ was killed on the Christ and resurrected, Muslims completely deny his death thus, the fact of resurrection (they believed that God just took him back). So, we can see that there is a number of similarities in the understanding of Jesus by Islam and Christianity, however they are also different. But, what is the most, important none of two religions denies the existence if this great figure.
Christians believe that Jesus was the Son of God and a part of the Trinity, The Trinity is made up of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Judaism's view on Jesus is that he was just a human, a great storyteller and a prophet. He was not the Son of God.
Baptism is introduced in the Gospels when John the Baptist begins his ministry as the forerunner of Jesus Christ. John's baptism was a baptism of repentance for Jews; he preached a simple message to the Jews that they were to repent of their sins in preparation for Kingdom of God and the coming of the Messiah. In Matthew 3:13-17, Jesus comes down to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.”
...ons believe in fasting as stated in the holy books. Both Holy books state that followers should pray to God and Allah for it is considered holy and right (Jaoudi, 7).
Although Islam and Christianity differ in major ways, they also share some similarities in their belief in God. First of all, Christianity and Islam are both monotheistic religions; worshipping only one God. While both believe in the same God, he is called by two completely different names. He is referred to as "Allah" by Muslims and "God" by Christians. The basic creed of Islam is brief: “There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad is the Prophet of Allah”.
The Quran reads that God is just one god and that there are no different parts of him. Christians believe that Jesus is the son of god and is part of the trinity. The Islamic people just believe that Jesus was sent has a messenger and like Muhammad, was a prophet of god. As for Christians the seem him as a messenger and also the second member of the trinity and that Jesus was God himself. The trinity is made up of three parts, the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Another big difference when talking about Jesus within the two texts is Jesus death. We see that Muslims do not believe Jesus death happen on a cross, instead believe God lifted him up of him. We can see the in the text of the Quran $156-157, as to what it suggests about what happen. “They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but they thought they did. God lifted him up to His presence. God is Almighty, All-Wise” When looking at the opposite side of the story we see that Christians do believe that Jesus died. They believe he willingly sacrificed himself to save mankind from sin. They believe he
The religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are alike in many ways but they also share many differences. Judaism and Christianity use the bible in their holy scriptures, while Islam does not. Jesus Christ is a part of all three religions as Christianity and Islam developed from Judaism. Many believe that the three religions worship, pray to, and focus on the same god. They believe this as many of the prophets are they share much in common as they share many beliefs. However, the followers of the three religions pray differently and in different places. the religions believe that their god created the world and everything in the world. The three Abrahamic religions have different histories, yet they share many similarities and difference.
Pentecostals make their fasting with a purpose; sometimes can be to ask for something or to be forgiven by God. When a Pentecostal is fasting it is a very personal thing and it is not discuss with anyone. For instance, when someone is not married you cannot have sex with somebody that you are not marrying with. If someone is committing this types or other different sins should not be taking the holy bread or drinking wine. I have known people that they are committing this type of sin and one of the ways that can be hide from everyone is by eating the holy bread and drinking the wine because usually that people who do not take the holy bread and wine sometimes are people who have been sinning and that have not stop it. Pentecostals have a big respect for the holy bread and the wine but if you take it knowing you are sinning then it will be a sin that you will personally deal with God. That is why Pentecostals ask God for forgiveness and when is a deeply sin they like to fast. When I fast is if I want to get something very challenge and I know that I need God’s helps or if I have sin many times and for me this is the right way to ask God for forgiveness. While the Muslims in the Ramadan month, they need to also have some other restrictions in their body to also respect this act. For example, the tongue should be restrained from lies, gossip or offences, your hands should not
