The person with the bat wipes stinging sweats from their forehead with the back of their left sleeve. The bat hangs heavy in the crook of their left arm. The person with the bat looks out onto the baseball field, white chalk lines stretch far away from his batter's plate. The crowd is still, waiting impatiently to see how this last pitch will be returned. The fans have had a horrible season, their team lost every game except one that was to a local team, and then only by 1 run. If this last ball, of the final moments in this last game of the season can be converted to a run then the bad season can be redeemed. Growing up in Britain, I never played Baseball. I did, however enjoy soccer. I consider the two sports similar in appeal. Like baseball, soccer players start their careers in the equivalent of junior Little League teams, with the hope of their team winning enough games to achieve promotion and glory! In soccer, as in baseball one player can dominate the game, but that player needs their other team-members in order to maintain their rule. One simple mis-kick(Or mis-swipe of the bat) could be enough to gift the other team a point that could win the game.
Baseball has been called America's greatest pass time and I think that the need for a team to work together is the reason for this devotion to the game. Generations will grow teaching the next generation how to play stick ball. Intelligent players will learn how to cooperate in play to achieve the maximum results for their …show more content…

That person with the bat could be them, stood in a field behind their middle school. The pitcher could be their best pal who went away to Vietnam on the draught and never came home. That shortstop could now be their business partner and best friend.
Playing sports as a kid teaches the child sportsmanship, courage under fire, how to rally efforts after a crushing defeat and how to encourage each other when the win happens! These kids grow up with these lessons and take them to school, workplace and marriage. Soon to be raising their own kids to the cry of 'Play Ball.'
Whether your game is baseball, basketball, hockey or something else support your players by attending the games and remember that your sportsmanlike conduct from the bleachers is what these kids will learn from
