The Treaty of Versailles has made a big impact on history itself but specifically Germnay. After The Great War, Germany’s fate was in the hands of the allied powers. The major powers that were involved in the conference were England, France, Italy, and the United States. The Treaty of Versailles left Germany stranded economically, politically, militarily, and socially leaving it very convenient for Hitler to slip into power. The Treaty of Versailles is one of the most acclaimed peace treaties in history. Towards the end of World War I, Germany had been struggling in almost every aspect of the fight. They eventually requested a cease of fire and gave up. As many people count on a peace settlement to be made, the allied powers all had their own ideas in punishing the Germans. From late January of 1919 to the end of June, a stipulation for peace was being conferred in Paris at the palace of Versailles. There were about thirty-two states represented in Paris; however the most crucial countries were France, Britain, Italy, and America. Georges Clemenceau represented France, Italy was represented by Vittorio Orlando, Britain was represented by Lloyd George, and America was represented by Woodrow Wilson. Even though Italy was one of the more important countries represented at Versailles, they were often left out of the discussion when more critical terms were to be discussed by the “Big Three”.1 The Big Three was Woodrow Wilson, David Lloyd George, and Georges Clemenceau. Each nation had their own view on the treaty, and what the Germans should be punished for. The English wanted to expand their colonies to Germany and gain some land. His nationalistic and passionate speaking skills gained him the respect of many Germans in very bad times. As Hitler rose to power the future destruction of Germany began. The Treaty of Versailles played a significant role in the country of Germany after World War I. The Big Three constructed the treaty with all of their own ideas and they came up with a deal that took Germany out of the national picture until World War II. The treaty effected Germany economically, militarily, socially, and politically. It even changed the territory of Germany a little. Some may argue that the Treaty of Versailles is the reason Adolf Hitler came into power. The Treaty of Versailles set Germany up for failure right from the beginning.
