The experience of being able to travel outside of one’s country is indescribable and can possibly be life changing to others, such as me. Traveling to a new place that is foreign to one can open their eyes and give them a whole new perspective on life. In my opinion if everyone had the ability to travel the world, it would be a better and more understanding place for one another 's culture and religions. For instance, when I was eleven years old I was to travel back to Colombia for the first time in eight years to visit my dad’s family. The last time we went I was too young to really take in the experience of all of what I was about to go through again. When we finally arrived in Colombia there is automatically a difference between the United …show more content…

For example, having a nice home, warm water, clean clothes, clean shoes, and a safe area to live in. This experience caused me to become more humble, to always be kind, to treat others with the utmost respect, and to realize that there are people who wish to have my type of lifestyle, so I should appreciate it as much as I can. Also, it allowed me to have newfound respect for my father and my family still currently living in Colombia. It’s not easy, but they’ve been blessed to be able manage the way they do. I fell in love with Colombia because despite the things these people had to go through they were all happy and kind to one another. As well, it’s such a much slower pace than America’s fast life and it taught me to take a step back sometimes to just appreciate life because my dad had to go through hell and back to come to the United States. Therefore, whenever I get the chance I always try my best to show my dad that I appreciate him, love him, recognize the sacrifices he made in order for his family to have a better life, and for that I am forever grateful to him. After coming back home, I began to understand how lucky and truly blessed I am in my life. I’ll never forget that trip and I can’t wait to go back to Colombia in November to see what this next experience will bring into my
Growing up in the Caribbean Island known as Saint Martin. The lifestyle is completely different compared to living in the United States. You could imagine that you’re living in paradise. I came to the USA because my mother and I weren’t on good terms at the time. St Martin is less violent, less racism and the education is more evolved on certain level meaning schools hours are longer than in America and children starts school at the age of 2, and also racism isn’t issued example: Blacks, Caucasians, Asians would get along perfectly; the distances was shorter I used to walk to the store or to go the beaches or meet up friends, transportation is totally different and bit more organize and less confusing. To have been able to grow up in an amazing
The traveler goes somewhere because there is something there to see or learn, and his reports of his goings-on are centered upon what is there and its relationships to ideas. The purpose of a trip for such a person is to learn, and also allow others to learn from what findings the person observes. While many people have never traveled around the world, they may still be aware of what is going on there,...
Anderson University stands out from other universities in many ways, with one of the reasons being Anderson’s travel and cultural opportunities. Traveling is an integral part of the learning process. Living or spending time in another country takes a student outside of their realm, literally and emotionally. They are forced into flexibility. The popular term “culture shock” is named that way for a reason. Students can also stretch their worldly knowledge through campus cultural events. While most colleges offer study-abroad options for their students, Anderson students can study-abroad, sign up for a Tri-S trip, or attend campus events if they desire to learn about cultures. Anderson University offers these possibilities to its students, but
At first, the idea of my family and me moving to the United States was fun and exciting. I couldn’t wait for the time for my family and me to leave, get to ride an airplane, eat stateside food such as spam, corned beef, apples, and oranges, and experience the different seasons, especially winter. Because of the excitement of coming to America, I didn’t have the time to think and realize the effects of moving away from home such as missing everything, adopting a different culture, and being independent. The major effect of moving to a different country, especially moving during my third year of high school, and the most familiar one was missing everything such as family, friends, food, and scenery.
He who does travel, does not know the value of men. Traveling is one of the most important things someone can achieve. If someone never travels they’ll never know the full extent of human accomplishments because they won't be there to admire the food, buildings, nature, animals, climate, people, and just everyday life in other cultures.
As a Haitian immigrant, my parents and I would spend our family vacations in our hometown of Port-au- Prince, Haiti. I would enjoy participating in family activities such as card games, cooking, and just the quality time that we spent together. We could play these games and laugh amongst each other for hours, without a care in the world merely telling jokes and listening to the elder parables. Amongst my family I felt untouchable. Like a tree in the wind, my only cares were that of the breeze and the beauty of my foundation. In the sway of the wind I was overcome with a sense of peace.
Overall, learning about my father's struggles in California exposed me to the reality people today face from other countries. Hearing his story filled my heart with sympathy for my father. It's sad to see him go through PTSD with reoccurring flashbacks of his family abandoning him and going through problems we as a family would have to fight through together. Coming to California is not a easy for anyone, but it's a struggle worth
new people as well as see new cultures. It has always been a dream of mine to travel
As a three year old, innocent and clueless, I was on a plane travelling half way across the world to Canada. All I knew, at the time, was that I was leaving Argentina, the country where I was born, lived in for 3 years, and where all of my relatives live, to a country with a different language, a different culture, and different people. My father had already been living in Canada for three months and now, my mother along with my sister and I were making the long 18 hour trek to Canada. At the gate, we said "see you again" to our relatives thinking that we would be back living in Argentina in 3-4 years.
Besides the food and beautiful attractions, I learn about different cultures, become aware of what is happening in different areas, and I gain new perspectives. This is one of the many reasons why I love and appreciate traveling; it is eye opening and makes me appreciate my life more. Above all, traveling allows me to gain new experiences to become a social worker and a more compassionate
Romance, as it confirms human agency with regards to understanding the world and organizing one's existence, is an enabling genre. Northrop Frye identifies "romance" in its questing, adventurous, persistently nostalgic, and "perennially child-like quality" as the "nearest of all literary forms to the wish-fulfillment dream" (186). Arguably, many of the texts that we have examined over the course of the term can be understood as (more or less) participating in the affirmative conventions of romance in the ways that they show men and woman turning travel into a journey.
One experience that I will always remember is the day I was running errands and had the opportunity to meet a very special patient. She was a sweet woman who was originally from Mexico. We were having a friendly conversation when she asked me about why I chose to do community service at the hospital. I explained to her that I planned on majoring in the medical field one day and I was working on obtaining community service hours. We got to talking about the education systems in our countries. In our conversation I learned that only selected people were given the opportunity to receive an education in her native country of Mexico. She told me about the poor education system and the extreme poverty which debilitates Mexico. As a United States citizen, I am provided with a variety of options for education. People in Mexico must fight to obtain access to any education. This made me realize how truly fortunate I am.
There is nothing quite like traveling, going someplace new and finding out more about the world and yourself. Anyone can become a traveler it just takes a little bit of faith and courage. Traveling across the world or even across the country is a learning experience. When you are a traveler you see how people live and how different cultures work. It is the best educational experience you could give yourself. You see how the world works in a way no one can teach you. Seeing different cultures and people help build the person you want to be. If you are a traveler the world influences you, because when traveling, you see the good and the bad, and you learn from the right and the wrong. I am very lucky that I am able to be a traveler and see this
The world is a magnificent place that’s full of life and new places. Places that are waiting to be walked upon and viewed by the eye’s of travelers. To make new memories and go places that is beyond the walls of reality and new pathways of life. To truly experience the wonders that the world has to offer can be expressed by the life of one single person, setting off into the world to gain a higher purpose about the world. Traveling individually enables people to broaden their minds and accumulate new ideas and new experiences both nationally and internationally. By setting off into the world a person has the ability to learn so many new things, but also find so much about themselves while in the process of traveling.
