Santiago dreamed of becoming a shepherd, to travel so he can see the entire world and learn from the people experience although his father wants him to become a priest. Santiago dreamed a strange dream so he went to a gypsy women to interpret his dream, he told her that he saw the same dream twice, he dreamed that he was in a field with his sheep, when a child appeared and began to play with the animals, he doesn’t like people to do that because the sheep are afraid from strange people, the child went on playing with his sheep for a while suddenly the child took his both hands and transported him to the Egyptian Pyramids, the child said to Santiago “ If you come here, you will find a hidden treasure” the child was about to show him the exact location, he woke up. The gypsy women told him that is a difficult dream to interpret but the interpretation was that he need to go to the Egyptian Pyramids and he will find a treasure and become a rich man and if he found his treasure he should give the gypsy women one-tenth of it.

The boy started his journey to the Egyptian Pyramids; he was setting a bench when the old man sat on the same bench they started to talk about the book the boy was reading the old man said that book describe people that choose their own destinies and it ends by saying that everyone believes the world’s greatest lie, Santiago discovered that the old man was the king of Salem. The king told Santiago that he has succeeded in discovering his Personal Legend. He assists Santiago in making the decision to go searching for his treasure. the boy decided to travel looking for his treasure, the old man gave Santiago a white stone and a black stone, they are called Urim and Thummim, the black signifies ‘YES’ and...

...The Alchemist tough Santiago to go and achieve his dream and then to go back to the Fatima his true love and she will be waiting for him because she is a women desert and she must wait for the man she loves to return to her on the oasis.

The Alchemist takes his leave of Santiago, who continues on to the Pyramids. Once there, Santiago is attacked by robbers. Asked what he is doing there, Santiago replies that he had a dream of a treasure buried at the base of the Pyramids. One of the robbers laughs at him, and says that he has had the exact same dream, except that in his the treasure was buried in Spain. Santiago realizes that the treasure was back in Spain the entire time. Then Santiago is digging a hole at the base of the tree where he had had his first dream. Sure enough, he finds a trunk full of gold–enough for him and Fatima to live happily for a long time.
