Transcendentalism is a simple, yet complex idea. It is thought to have grown out of the English and American movements of romanticism. A transcendentalist is someone who accepts the ideas not as religious beliefs but instead as a way of understanding life relationships. Some examples of transcendentalists are Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, and Walt Whitman. Tenets play an important role in Transcendentalism. Tenets are a principles or beliefs, especially one of the main principles of a religion. The tenants are put in place to help transcendentalists through their life and give them guidance. Transcendentalists believe in the importance between nature and God, self-reliance, and nonconformity to the world.
