Trailer Analysis of The Matrix
The film trailer that I am going to analyse is the first film of a
trilogy, this film was released in 1999 and revolutionised films
forever. Introducing bullet time, new and improved slow motion effect,
this is now seen in many movies today. This film pops up many
philosophical questions that made scientists and philosophers E.g.
Steven Hawkins, ask the question, is this possible? Not only has this
film changed the views of many people, it has a big cult following
from hardcore fans to people in mental institutes that been effect by
this film.
This trailer is about the film, The Matrix. Directed and produced by
Larry and Andy Wachowski known as the Wachowski brothers. The purpose
of this trailer is to make people interested to watch the film not
once but many times which means this trailer has to be very effective
in the limited time given, it is about two minutes long and since this
film is like no other it is targeted at everyone, mostly action film
fans. The film is classed as a Sci-fi / action film. There will be new
concepts shown introduced in this trailer, as it is a trilogy it only
covers the first film.
The plot I simple, there is a question that needs answering and this
trailer is very direct and the first scene sees our first character,
Trinity, which is seen leaping a great distance between two buildings.
The action dives straight in and does not include the boring parts of
the film; music is not introduced at the beginning but is later added
in to last until the end. A little is known about this film and action
fans will be easily drawn in.
This trailer is very clever, a scene is shown and another scene is put
together to relate to that event. It starts off very effective and
draws in the views straight away.
A girl is seen running at night, this scene I s divided into three
shots for added dramatic effect which shows u the intensity of the
This is a movie in another movie that has a story from the past that is repeated nowadays: the same conflicts between exploited and exploiters, enslavement, injustice, protection of the public against those who put a price, and also the story of how the union of many sometimes gets what seemed

Film trailers are produced in several forms, to influence the public to view the film, and to get a good profit before they sell the film.

At this point a brief synopsis of the movie would seem to be in order,
In the opening scenes of the trailer, already the audience is exposed to the dystopian atmosphere of chaos, social anarchy and oppression. This is promoted by short fast paced montages and high angle shots of the swarmed streets, close angle shots of people in terror and military forces. This also conveys the magnitude of chaos this “dilemma” has caused. A short scene of the main protagonist Robert struggling through the crowd has also been visually constructed to enforce to the audience that he is the main character of this movie. The visual construction of this scene is utilised by a close up slow motion focused shot on Will Smith with the background blurred to completely draw the audience onto him. What is more unique is that this combination of effects acts as an inference that Will Smith is the solution or only hope in settling this anarchy as he swiftly makes his way through the congested street. The explosion of the bridge also informs the audience the narrative is set in New York implied by being a landmark of the city. Already in the exposition, the visual conventions have provided an engaging and well informed construction of dystopian qualities and information about the plot itself.
