Introduction:
Trafalgar is a small rural town in West Gippsland Victoria, (one and a half hours from Melbourne) which has a population of approximately 4,635 people (Australian Bureau of Statistics [ABS], 2015). The main health issue that is prominent in the Baw Baw Shire and primarily Trafalgar is cardiovascular disease (CVD) (Trafalgar Local Stats, 2015). CVD creates enormous costs for the health care system as it places a heavy burden on individuals and the communities due to resulting disabilities. The Trafalgar community has a central part to play in improving health for the Trafalgar residents as community health enables practitioners, managers and policy-makers to identify those in greatest need of health services and then target services particularly to these concerns. If cardiovascular health is to improve for the Trafalgar population, health promotion programs need to work hand in hand with medical providers in these communities to improve cardiovascular health. Trafalgar has a high percentage of elderly people in the community which could indicate the high levels of CVD in Trafalgar as CVD is more common in the elderly with 18.1% of Trafalgar’s population being over 65 years old (Gippsland health online, 2015) & (Trafalgar Local Stats, 2015). Despite improving trends, CVD remains Australia’s biggest killer, accounting for 16% of the total disease burden and 11% of national health system expenditure (Heart Foundation, 2014). Personal health is extremely important to everyone around the world. But it is especially important to citizens of the United States of America. Being one of the leading countries in Health technology and also in food and beverage leaves most people choosing between living a healthy lifestyle and indulging in the varieties of food we offer. Across the country, many people are living with pre-existing conditions, living in food deserts, living below the poverty line and a long list of other factors that either hinders them from eating healthy or force them to eat healthily. When trying to live a healthy lifestyle in this country not only does the promotion of prevention matter, but also the promotion of Career and job opportunities matter just as much. The NHS was then finalised during 1948, the main role of the NHS was to reduce health inequalities throughout Britain, so that everyone could be treated the same way, whatever their finance stability, job status and location. They believed that this programme should have reduced inequalities throughout Britain. It was created by Aneurin Bevan and Edwin Chadwick but it was successful until the Prime Minister at the time who was Margaret Thatcher accepted the Bill through Parliament. Leadership, Character, Service, Citizenship. When I think of the NHS, leadership, character, community, and role modeling are all things that come to mind. Being a part of the National Honor Society will help me do just that. I have worked hard for outstanding grades, citizenship, and becoming a leader and role model for other classmates.
What does ‘care’ mean? Care is the provision of what is necessary for your health, welfare and protection of someone or something. However when you talk about ‘care’ in a care practice the term changes and becomes more about enabling people to meet all their needs which would refer to their social, physical, emotional, cognitive and cultural needs. The individual is central to the meaning of care in this context.
Currently Americans are at a high risk for heart disease. The Center for Disease Control assess that about 49% of Americans have at least one of these three factors attributing to heart disease: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and smoking (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2014). There are also other medical conditions and lifestyle choices that can increase the risk for heart disease such as: diabetes, obesity, excessive alcohol use and physical inactivity. In my opinion, the chronic condition which will have the most impact on the future of our aging baby boomers would be heart disease. I believe this chronic disease holds a strong impact due to the high amount of baby boomers which have this condition, the media’s depiction of how heart disease can affect older adults, as well as family members who have had heart disease when they became older adults. This paper will include my thoughts on heart disease through the lens of demographics, family, social and financial impact, public health network function, and prevention program availability.
Social class is the mixture of occupation, housing, income level and education. Social class can be a reason why some people might often get ill. For example, if you live in a poor housing condition, you are likely to be prone to illness. On the other hand, if you live in nice clean house, then you are more likely to stay away from illness.
To begin with, we have to identify what exactly means for the words “public health”. In general, we usually divided into two different areas. Public health which refers to the health of the environment surrounding in public, such as public transport and public infrastructure. Another explanation of public health means to prevent disease produced by different channels and methods, which also is the most common meaning and what I will mainly working for this paper about public health. First of all, when people mentioned about public health, United States and Japan would be the first two countries to compare with. Because the United States and Japan are basically two of the countries that everybody thinks of the most robust public health system.
The purpose of this community profile is to discuss a particular health improvement issue within a chosen community. A community can be defined using many different terms. You can belong to a community through religious beliefs. Through shared experiences or interests. You can belong to a political community where all involved share the same political interests. A community can also be defined as ‘a family’ a small village where many have lived most of their lives who share the same desire to belong to that community.
There are numerous public health problems that can be addressed in my Southside of Chicago community. Among the several public health problems facing my Southside of Chicago community there are two that are more urgent. Health education or one might say lack thereof is a problem that needs to be addressed. My community is plagued with many of the residents suffering from high blood pressure, diabetes, and the killer virus known as HIV. In most cases these conditions can be prevented with healthier lifestyles and access to nutritious organic foods. In addition, environmental health is another urgent problem my community is facing. Access to clean, safe water and air is supposed to be a fundamental human right aimed at a healthy environment. Yet, my community consists a waste contaminated beach, numerous deteriorated building that are still occupied, and a countless number of restaurant and stores supplying our residents with services that are endangering their health.
I have always been intrigued by the field of science and that is the reason I pursued the field of Biochemistry for my undergraduate studies. How The Human body works and the different determinants that can affect one's health or a community as a whole have always been captivating to me. I wanted to emerge in a profession that is beneficial for me, my community, and the world I live in. I came to realize through various science courses and health care experiences that a career in health care was the best path for me to outreach my community and the world.
The environment and health are very closely linked. The environment in which we inhabit and go about our daily lives, directly impacts on our physical, mental and social well-being. There are biological, chemical and physical factors that can affect human health in a physical and mental way. The World Health Organisation states that "health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity" (WHO 1948), meaning that although many factors relating to health are associated with environmental pollution, they can also be caused by the environment in which we work and live in. The relationship between the environment and health, can however be quite complex. Human health is not only as a result of air, water and ground pollution, but also things such as food, genetics, life style and quality, which directly affect human susceptibility to illness, disease and possibly death. Disruptions to the environment, such as substance dispersal, climate change, acidification, ground pollution, photochemical air pollution and over fertilisation can also impact on human health. Therefore, there are direct and indirect links to the environment and health issues.
