Quality can be defined as meeting or exceeding customer expectations which is one of the key dimensions of customer value. Employee empowerment is a relatively new management technique that is less hierarchical and gives employees more autonomy and freedom in their jobs. Expectations will vary depending on whether the customer is internal or external. It enables employees to make their own decisions when it comes to their job without having to get permission from upper level management. Empowerment lets the person who is closest to the problem make critical decisions. Total Quality Management is a management technique adopted by the most manufacturing organizations. TQM in general is viewed as organization set up which will help to manufacture products at lowest cost by the following various management techniques through continuous improvement. In today’s business world, quality management is a key competitive issue. The delivery of products and services that meet specifications has become a basic requirement of customer’s satisfaction. However, customers increasingly want much more than basic quality. Higher expectations began in manufacturing and are associated with manufactured products; they now apply to all sectors including the service industry, government agencies and even charitable organizations. And the wonderful thing about thanking other people is that, every time you say the words “thank you,” you like yourself better as well. You feel better inside. You feel happier and more content with yourself and life. You feel more fully integrated and positive about what you are doing. When you develop an attitude of gratitude that flows forth from you in all of your interactions with others, you will be amazed at how popular you will become and how eager others will be to help you in whatever you are doing.
The next tip is “give honest and sincere appreciation.” A recurring theme in this book, is that people want to feel like they are important. There is a driver forcing you to do everything in life. For example, as a chairperson of the Business Week publicity committee, I am working hard to promote the Business Week activities and increase attendance using creative tactics. When people show up to events because of a promotion I created, it makes me feel important and gives me a sense of fulfillment. Such is the case when dealing with others. If they know they are appreciated, they will feel important and will continue doing a good job in the future.
Implementing a Total Quality Management concept in an organization requires commitment from the top, a high level steering committee, plans for the early phase of implementation and a means of providing the necessary training (Goetsch & Davis, 2014). Planning and organizing means little if the infrastructure to support deployment and continual improvement does not exist. Infrastructure that supports deployment of a Total Quality organization include procedures, organization and union considerations.
