I. Have you ever imagined what your teeth would have been like if you didn't brush your teeth at least once a day?
II. Today I am going to talk about the use of stem cells, which are harvested from fallen tooth, to make new teeth for people who have lost their teeth.
III. According to BBC NEWS, a national study by Newcastle University Dental School on Thursday, March 23 2000, found that more than two out of three people who say they brush their teeth twice a day have substantial amount of plaque in their mouths. Despite the findings of the survey total tooth loss is becoming a rarity. It is forecast that by 2018, only 5% people will have no teeth, compared with 13% now. (Cite #1)
IV. First I would like to introduce the basics of the procedure, and then look at some of the medical complications that researchers face, and finally a preview of the expected future of this new discovery.

So, what is the first step to growing new teeth? (Point #1)
I. Although some researchers agree that it is better to harvest the stem cells from baby teeth, some also argue that it is better to use adult stem because "they are autologous, meaning they come from the person being treated), and are found in many parts of the body: Nerves, bone, hair, skin and intestine" as says Professor Paul Sharpe, who runs the craniofacial department at the Dental Institute in King's College London on Monday may 3 2004. A. Since we cannot complete this procedure on a human yet, we will have to continue using laboratory mice for this experiment, says Dr. Paul Kores, a biology professor at Moorpark College. In an interview that I had with him in March 2004, he said that in an article that he had read, scientists had est...

Conclusion
I. Today, I introduced some of the basics of the procedure, then looked at some of the medical problems not to mention the ethical ones, which continue to remain controversial, and covered a preview of the unexpected future of this new discovery.
II. Let it be said, that even though you might not have to purchase any dentures when you hit the age 50 or 60, but this procedure is expected to be very expensive along with the pain involved, at least for a while
III. So since the rate of tooth loss is expected to actually drop in the next 10 to 20 years, not many people might need to go through this expensive procedure and the very few that need it, will be cured permanently. If you want to be amongst the 95% of the people with healthy teeth, continue to take good care of your teeth.

Here are the things that you can do besides daily brushing and flossing to stop tooth decay.
You really cant discuss the pros and cons of something without first knowing the topic. Personally I feel that many individual strong stances on this issue are based on myth rather than fact. Stem cells can be obtained from both the skin cells of an adult and also from the embryo after 4 to 5 days of incubation. Embryonic stem cells are where most of the
Children are often sweet and adorable, but many times they may be eating too many sweets. According to the Channel Four News, it has been shown that the number one disease in children is the reoccurrence of caries, also known as cavities. Could it be too many sweets or could it be the lack of flossing and brushing teeth? For instance, many children go to bed or wake up without brushing their teeth and go throughout the day eating all sorts of food and candy. The result of eating and not brushing could lead to plaque build up and decaying of teeth. This leaves a child extremely unhappy and in excruciating pain. So who is going to fix this pain? Who is going to help prevent decay in millions of people’s mouths? Today, the world is lucky to have a well-studied field of dentistry.. Dentistry has much history, various specialties, advancements, and an irresistible salary.

Hygienist are the dentists who educate their patients on the importance of oral health care. Hygienist examine any chipped tooth, damage filling, discolored or swollen gums, and also take x-rays, and help prevent tooth decay. Today, dental care focuses on prevention. Preventing tooth decay and related problems is the main job of a dental hygienist. As generations pass, not many people are fully aware of the downside of not properly taking care of their pearly whites. This topic was brought to my attention by noticing the lack of dental hygiene among my peers. This doesn’t necessarily just mean having only cavities, sore gums, but also bad breath.
There are three ways to acquire a sample of stem cells. The first method is very controversial, which is the extraction of an embryonic cell. This embryonic cell can be extracted from aborted fetuses, with the permission of the woman having the abortion. Most people find it unethical to use the fetuses. However, if you do not use it, it just goes to waste. Why not let the fetus help save someone’s life? The second method to extract stem cells are through umbilical cords. The umbilical cord is rich with stem cells. Blood cells from the newborn baby can be used the moment it...
Over time as individuals age and are faced with access to care issues they may begin to neglect their oral health. As time passes between dental hygiene cleanings or dentist visits the presence of oral disease may begin to increase.
Since I was a child my mom used to tell me “you needed to brush your teeth at least twice a day because if you don’t do so, you are going loose them forever, and guess what, once you lose them they won’t grow back again”. I am pretty sure that for some of you this words sound very familiar, right? As I grew up I started to wonder why my mom always tell me brushing and flossing is so important? And that is the main reason why I decided to become a dental hygienist, in order to be able to teach my patients its importance.
Tooth brushing techniques causing gingival trauma are a significant factor for gingival recession. The frequency, duration and force of brushing all contribute to recession. Excessive force and improper technique may lead to ...
Humans only get one set of adult teeth after losing all of their primary teeth therefore, it is important to take care of them. “Dental caries: Strategies to control this preventable disease” is an article written by Rugg-Gunn, Andrew presents several reasons why dental decay is a widespread disease. Rugg-Gunn cites that the main cause of dental decay is lack of fluoride, poor diet, bacteria from plaque, and sugars. Based on this evidence, Rugg-Gunn concludes that “dental caries can be prevented” (Rugg-Gunn128), but there is no evidence of stopping the disease from happening. While Rugg-Gunn raises a revolving problem around the world with human oral decay he however, does not have a good approach on what decay really is.
Throughout centuries medical research has been conducted on animals. “Animals were used in early studies to discover how blood circulates through the body, the effect of anesthesia, and the relationship between bacteria and disease” (AMA 59). Experiments such as these seem to be outdated and actually are by today’s means, scientists now study commonly for three general purposes: (1) biomedical and behavioral research, (2) education, (3) drug and product testing (AMA 60). These three types of experiments allow scientists to gain vast amounts of knowledge about human b...
First and foremost, cosmetic dentistry is a costly affair. Surgical treatment can cost up to $1000 or more per tooth. And in many cases, dental insurance companies may not provide coverage. For example, dental implants are not covered by insurance companies because they are considered luxury items. Similarly, your local government or health body may not provide any kind of subsidy. Another important factor that needs to be considered is proper oral hygiene. Improper oral hygiene or habits such as smoking can have a negative impact on dental implants. It is very essential to take proper care of the implant or else the implant may fail within a short span of time. Depending on the quality and durability of the materials used, you may have to undergo restorative procedures again in 10 or 15 years after the initial surgery. Even though cosmetic dentistry is a costly procedure, there are several ways to save money. One of the best ways is to get the procedure done in countries such as China or India. In many countries, the costs of surgery are substantially lower and the quality is almost the same as in the developed countries. Dental tourism is a good option for you if you are willing to explore a
The procedures that will be the future of modern medicine currently fall into the realms of taboo and fictional. These procedures encompass every aspect of medical science, from exploration of the human body, curing diseases, to improving a person’s quality of life. Many of these procedures are not very well known, while a few have been in the spotlight. These procedures include cloning, nano-robotics, retro-viruses, and genetic manipulation via gene-specific medications. For any serious breakthroughs in modern medical science, we must embrace these new forms of treatment instead of shying away from them. Second, I’ll attempt to explain how these methods and procedures could benefit mankind.
