Tombstone AZ
"Tombstone has had its share of troublesome people and its high rollers such as the famous Dick Clark. Dick Clark was a trick card man, having an ace up his sleeve or dropping an extra card on the ground for the fun of taking the pot. In 1881 Dick Clark, whose real name was Richard, had run his own saloon in Tombstone. The name of Clacks saloon was 'The Alhambra', with people not being to very good of friends with Clark he had few equals. Clark's saloon was most likely one of the best gambling establishments. Earlier in Mr. Clarks gambling days he had played poker in the army for their money and had enlisted again only to gamble with the army dudes. Tombstone had had some of the best poker games, such as Dick's game against Senator Horace Tabar, and Clark had cleaned him out. Clark had been known for winning as much as 1000 dollars in 6 hands, I believe no one would want to play him when he was on a roll. On his way from coast to coast he was told by a doctor that he had seen that he had an incurable sickness and would later die. The Clark Family, Dick, his wife, and their adopted son had set out from Chicago on their way back to Tombstone. On their way by train they stopped in Albuquerque and Dick died in the hotel in October. When Dicks body was returned to Tombstone, all business closed for his burial."(Time-Life Books, 1978)
"Tombstone, Arizona was founded in 1877 and it is the site of the famous gun battle the O.K. Corral. It was said that Tombstone was big for being a place where you could live your life as a king or die with your boots on. Tombstone had become a boomtown a few years later and the silver from mines gave word and it inherited fortune hunters, gamblers, gunfighters, and merchants. This town had, by 1881, a population of 7 thousand and most of which was served by 110 licensed liquor establishments. Because of the way the people are in Tombstone it was a place in which it was hard to raise your kids."(Mike Flanagan, 1987)
"Tombstone had a good side to it, the taxing of saloons and others provides the sole support for its school system.
Mexican culture is perhaps the largest influence on the state of Arizona, affecting the cuisine of Arizona quite heavily. Mexican food is widely popular in Arizona, meaning that there are plenty of local Mexican restaurants, each giving a unique experience. Mexican culture also has strong ties to the history of Arizona, as it was once territory belonging to Mexico. Mexicans who inhabited the region over a century ago fought with tribes native to the land in order to wrest control from them. However, war erupted with America on April 25, 1846. The war, now known as the Mexican-American War, resulted in the Mexican Cession. The Cession effectively indoctrinated the states of California, Nevada, most of Arizona, and various sections of other current day states. The war’s start can be contributed to many things, one such reason being the acceptance of Texas as a recognized state by the U.S. This created a great deal of tension with Mexico, as Texas was once their territory, until Mexicans and Americans overthrew the governor of the region and appointed their own leader, Samuel Houston. Houston then brought Texas in as a state to the U.S. in order to assuage any aggressive acts by Mexico. However, tensions soon flared when several small incidents along the border of Mexico and Texas lead to the war. Many politicians in the northern states opposed the war, claiming that it was an attempt of the southern slave owners to gain influence in the new territory. While most of the territory of Arizona was obtained by the end of the war, it was the Gadsden Purchase that attained the rest of the state, along with the southwesternmost part of modern day New Mexico. The purchase gets it’s name from the United States ambassador to Mexico, James Gadsden, who signed the treaty approving the purchase of the territory in the year 1853, not all too long after the

Clyde Chestnut Barrow was born on March 24, 1909, into a family of four children. Ironically, when the midwife told a local physician of his birth, the physician incorrectly recorded it as “baby girl Barrow'; in the Vital Statistics volume of the Ellis County Courthouse at Waxahachie. Three additional children followed Clyde’s birth, and the families financial difficulties worsened as the price for cotton bounced up and down. After some years, the Barrow’s found it impossible to provide for their children and sent them to live with relatives in east Texas. At one relatives home, Clyde developed two interests that remained with him to the end of his life: a passion for music, and an obsession with guns.

...tion of a true individualist: one who is untouched by society’s prying hands. Although they are both presented as individuals, this is simply not the case. Roark, through his unwillingness to compromise his artistic integrity, is the clear manifestation of an individualist. Meanwhile, Lois Cook, despite her numerous acts of rebellion, depends heavily upon the corrupt aspects of the society in which she lives. Rand demands the reader look beyond the traditional views of society that are ingrained deeply into his or her mind to reveal the significant complexity behind her characters. In other words, just like in modern-day society, the most well-known names do not belong to the most integral individuals. Perhaps if everyone were more like Howard Roark as opposed to Lois Cook, true nobility and fulfilment would not only come more easily, it would genuinely be earned.
Similar to the other states and territories, Arizona had what they believed was endless open range. Arizona also had a favorable climate that promoted the growth of vegetation. “Perennial grasses blanketed the broad valley floors, betraying no hint of the wide variations in annual rainfall and productivity that would later catch cattlemen unprepared” (Sayre 248). However, in the twenty years of the Cattle Boom, Arizona experienced a tragedy of the commons. The overpopulation of cattle had depleted the vegetation and degraded the
... an education. No longer will there be a shortage of class time, no longer will there be crowded classrooms full of despicable, worthless students bound to be the scum of mankind in the future. This plan will positively influence students in setting higher expectations and eliminating crude behavior at school, as horseplay proves to be for those who don’t consider their education as top-priority. GPA and test score averages will be on the rise as more and more outstanding students strive to make better role models. A 3.0 average is not hard to attain, and if students don’t maintain this GPA, they obviously are not trying and don’t care about their education. Putting those idiots who don’t care to go to school to work in the salt mines will not only improve our economy and bring change for the better in the education system – it will be the start of a better future.
For many, the quaint town of Point Clear, Alabama represents the Old South rooted in tradition, charm, and grace. Halfway down the bay and nearly hidden among oaks adorned with Spanish moss, Point Clear was founded in the early 1800s. Today, the city continues to honor its role in the Civil War, perpetuates the memories of its residents, and evolves as a greater and better place.
Since I am interested in South Carolina, I decided to find out a little more about it. One of the things I would like to find out is what happened in South Carolina’s history. It would also be interesting to find out about the state governor. Information about the capital city is another thing I want to learn about South Carolina. Finally, I want to know about to know about a famous person from South Carolina. Those are some of the things I hope to learn from doing this paper.
Davy Crockett stands for the Spirit of the American Frontier. As a young man he was a crafty Indian fighter and hunter. When he was forty-nine years old, he died a hero's death at the Alamo, helping Texas win independence from Mexico. For many years he was nationally known as a political representative of the frontier.
Saloons were described as part of the neighborhood. An institution recognized and familiar to its people. Many laws restricted their services; however, they continued to exist. The article talks about two types of saloons. The first being the more upscale in downtown districts. These would close around midnight not in accordance to law, but demand. The other type Melendy calls “saloons [of] workingmen’s districts” (Melendy, pg. 77). He illustrates these clubs as home away from home. They supplied the basis of food supply for those whose home was in the street or for those residents of cheap lodging establishments. It is even stated that many saloons provided free lunches.

The movie Crash gives perfect examples as to how racial discrimination and racial profiling are being portrayed. People discriminate against others due to their physical appearance or race. For example, there was a scene with of a couple husband and wife both white walking down the street and two black men walked passed them; consequently, the wife clutched her purse because it assumed that the black men were going to snatch her purse. It is lead to believe that black men are gang bangers, drug dealers, killers, etc, because that is the stereotype place upon them. Not to mention, statistics states that most men that are incarcerated are blacks; consequently, due to this statistic it is hard for black men to steer away from these ongoing stereotypes.
Personally, this book felt like a stern documentation of the lives of people in Afghanistan than a leisure novel. This book isn’t for everyone due to the heavy and hideous illustration it presents. Though I did not enjoy the morbid history context of the book, I would definitely recommend it because it tugged at my heart string. Personally the stories I like are most often true stories, the ones that hit the hardest. While reading the novel, It did give me an awareness that not all things in life are innocent and pure and that I should cherish my life since I’m in a haven from war and violence. There are always highs and lows in life, and truthful writing comes the best when you are vulnerable. In this book, I saw it in Khaled Hosseini’s writing, I saw how he described his home town get trampled by war and I saw how his people get murdered by politics. For me I really liked this
