Titania Good afternoon, thank you for picking me for the role of Tatania in A Midsummer Night’s Dream; however, the image you betray her as, needs to improve. Titania is a strong, independent woman – not the soft-spoken feeble girl. In act two, scene one, when Titania and Oberon argue about who should have the ownership of the changeling boy, Titania sticks to her opinions of having the boy “…Not for thy fairy kingdom. —Fairies, away! We shall chide downright, if I longer stay… ”. Don’t you feel scared? She uses a threat at Oberon – if she stays longer she will have a brawl with him. In the fairy world so much is chaotic and disordered – Titania is having a chaotic relationship with Oberon. Their arguments and fights are causing the natural world to get angry and disordered. “…By pavèd fountain, or by rushy brook, or in the beachèd margent of the sea, …But with thy brawls thou hast disturbed our sport. Therefore the winds, piping to us in vain…” (Act 2 scenes 1 line 89-73) This infers what affect their fights had on the natural world. Because all around her is disordered, the scene should reflect that especially act two scene one - this is, when she is first introduced to the audience. Like a recent play I watched, I think the set should be designed out of ordinary objects in a disordered and strange way. Don’t you think so? Chairs and tables could be balancing on each other the wrong way around. Small lighting should be used to add to the sense of mystery (another theme of A Midsummer Night’s Dream). A slight mist or fog should hover just above the ground up to ankle height. Once Oberon and Titania enter the lights should twitch to symbolize the disturbances of the clouds they create. Puck and all the farriers slowly walk back as an act of fear of their brawls. The once ankle deep fog, should build up to create suspension. Suddenly, on Titania last line “Not for thy fairy kingdom.
