Whether you are already pregnant, or are still at that stage that you are contemplating pregnancy, now is a good time to think about your health and strength recovery program. Such a training program should take place not long after you give birth. The Importance of a Postnatal Training Program Living in Singapore has a lot of perks, specially for those who are about to become new moms. This is because Singapore is well-known globally for having an excellent hospital system, thoroughly modern and patient-friendly. However, while maternal and neonatal care are amply provided for in this city-state’s hospital system, there are postnatal concerns that need to be addressed through a complementary service, one that has to do with personal training. A postnatal training program is important because of the tremendous physiological changes that happen to a woman during pregnancy. There are many medical concerns and issues that get attached to pregnancy, most of which are due to the additional weight that a pregnant woman puts on. The weight gain is caused in general by the uterus that is becoming enlarged, the fetus that grows, the woman’s placenta, the pregnancy or baby water, the excess fat that a pregnant woman acquires (particularly in the abdominal section), and natural fluid retention. While most of the things that contribute to the added weight that a pregnant woman carries are removed from her after delivery, the excess fat in the abdominal area, as well in other parts of her body, do not naturally just melt off. That is the reason that a personal trainer will exert the best of professional efforts to see to it that new moms are: • encouraged to embark on a supervised weight loss program • motivated to sustain her post ... ... middle of paper ... ... that professional trainers are able to encourage a new mom to take up exercising is by letting her understand that her concerns which are related to her having given birth, are all important. The trainer looks for non-verbal cues such as a look of tiredness, or a lack of willigness to talk, and addresses these immediately. Losing weight is not just about vanity, after all. It is not just about the desire to look good, although of course, that is also an important consideration which helps to shore up self-confidence. But, in general, it is the underlying health values that are expressed to the new mother: when her trainer, as part of her health team, is able to make her understand that her continued good health will redound to the benefit of her baby, it becomes simpler for her to wholeheartedly participate in, and achieve the goals of her training program.
Education regarding unit or group thinking is to be encouraged and reinforced. The fact that newborn Rosarie will be entering the home poses unique challenges that will require all members of the family to work together. Maria, Jamie, and Alice must be educated on the signs and symptoms of respiratory distress in the newborn and interventions that must be initiated when distress occurs. The nurse responsible for this teaching must require both verbalization and return demonstration of skills learned to ensure proper reception of the information. Once skills are developed by the adults within the home, the remaining children should then be educated on the signs and symptoms as well and actively participate in care. Involving the entire family will bring a cohesive thinking, and allow the family to work as a unit. A marriage counseling referral should as be provided to Maria and Jamie in order for them to work out their existing issues improving their likelihood of a successful marriage. Routine “check in’s” (phone calls, visits, etc.) should be in place for the family both by social services and pediatricians. In addition, community outreach programs (food banks, cultural organizations, etc.) are designed to support families like the Perez’s, nurses working within the community should tell these families about these resources
This particular class was conducted on a Saturday and covered the labor process, options for labor support, comfort measures, and breastfeeding. The class began with the discussion of the anatomy and physiology of an expecting mother. Then progressed to the stages of labor. Furthermore, the complications of delivery and pregnancy were discussed, this took approximately four hours. Lunch was at noon and piloted for thirty minutes. After lunch, comfort measures were reviewed, for about two hour. A forty-five minutes natural childbirth video was played that incorporated the Lamaze techniques. Then the instructor had the mother sit on the floor on yoga mats to practice the recommended breathing techniques for approximately thirty minutes. The final hour was dedicated to breastfeeding and questions the students
Breastfeeding is best for mom too. Increased levels of oxytocin stimulate postpartum uterine contractions, reducing blood loss and encouraging uterine contractions. From 3 months to 12 months postpartum, breastfeeding increases the rate of weight loss in most nursing mothers. Breastfeeding has even been found to lessen the severity of postpartum depression by keeping the hormonal levels more balanced. Breastfeeding also reduces the mother’s risk for breast cancer, cervical cancer, and osteoporosis, (Shinskie and Lauwers, 2002). It is important that the lactation consultant collaborate with the mother shortly after delivery to eliminate frustration and prevent the abandonment of br...

For any mother the birth of a newborn child can be a challenging experience. As nurses it is part of our job to ensure their experience is positive. We can help do this by providing the information they will need to affective care for their newborn. This information includes topics such as, breastfeeding, jaundice, when to call your doctor and even how to put your baby to sleep. When the parents have an understanding of these topics before discharge it can largely reduce their natural anxiety accompanied with the transition to parenthood. Health teaching for new parents is seen as such an important aspect of care on post-partum floors it is actually a necessary component that needs to be covered before the hospital can discharge the patients. At the moment the strategies most hospitals use in Durham Region are Video’s and Parenting Booklets that are primarily based in the English Language. In such a culturally diverse region this becomes a barrier to providing the health teaching to patients who do not speak English as a first language (ESL). This reflection will explore the challenges I faced when providing health teaching to an ESL patient as well as the importance of health teaching in the post-partum area.
The importance of skin-to-skin care for the childbearing family is that every newborn can benefit. Skin-to-skin is valuable because it promotes thermoregulation, cardio-respiratory stability, breast milk supply, and mother-infant bonding (Hugill, 2015; Baker-Rush, 2016; Gregson, 2011; Pigeon Turenne, Héon, Aita, Faessler, & Doddridge, 2016). The nurse’s role in skin-to-skin is to educate women and their families of its benefits. The nurse will be able to implement the carative factors of a teaching-learning experience with the parents, develop a helping-trusting relationship, as well as tend to basic human needs of the patients (Watson, 2008).
“All over the world there exists in every society a small group of women who feel themselves strongly attracted to give care to other women during pregnancy and childbirth. Failure to make use of this group of highly motivated people is regrettable and a sin against the principle of subsidiarity.”
... the end of your pregnancy, you often have trouble sleeping, and by exercising, it tires you and makes you work off extra energy so that you can sleep during the night. Exercise also assists in preparing you for childbirth by shortening labor, having fewer medical problems, and giving you endurance. I do not know any woman who would not appreciate those things.
...men do not gain much weight, enabling a faster return to weight presented in the pre-pregnancy. Thus, the pregnant woman physically active provides improvements to the health of both mother and fetus.
There are many different areas to consider when preparing for and having a newborn. Whether the pregnancy was planned or unplanned or the couple is married or not, a newborn baby brings new responsibilities. Having a baby also forces people to make adjustments both financially and within the family. Parents also express concerns and expectations when having a newborn comma especially when it is their first; including what roles each parent and family member should play, how much confidence they have in their parenting skills, and how much financial strain would be placed on the family once the newborn has arrived. The newest issue in today’s society is the fact that many women are delaying childbirth and having more children in their later years of life.
...nt weight during pregnancy and have a higher risk of maternal. Ultimately, a woman should get into a healthy lifestyle before becoming pregnant. If she is unhealthy, she may not be able to produce a healthy baby. If this is the case, she should have the option to abort.
All mothers, especially first time mothers need help moral support and advice during the first few days after their delivery to ensure proper care of their newborn. The care and help given to first time mothers is of utmost important during this period as to maintain the normality in their babies as well as to prevent any further complications. Typically all pregnant women are counseled during their antenatal period on how to prepare themselves mentally on the care of their babies after birth. Upon delivery, majority of the mothers would stay for a short period in the hospital. During this short stay, they would need time to recuperate, need to know what care to give their baby and how to carry out the care and also learn what to do if their baby is feeling unwell. Thus it is important for health care providers to assist first time mothers be it at the hospital or at home since it is a crucial period for them and they often requires more help and moral support especially when it comes to the proper care of their newborn. All things considered my first mother baby clinical went very well. I am more confident in the care I provided and will be providing throughout the next few weeks. If need be, the nurses were right there to answer questions or assist in my learning. I do know I have room for improvements, though I am aware it will take more practice. Having such cooperative patients and parents allowed me to take my time and be more thorough to ensure I was grasping concepts. As I continue to connect class content and what is seen in the hospital
It all begins with the pregnancy of the mother and determining if there are any complications during prenatal care. Prenatal care not only improves pregnancy; in fact, it helps the mother understand and determine what is right and wrong for the baby. Most individuals are not familiar with the different types of labors and may only think that there is only one type. Childbirth can come in many ways, such as a C-section, which can occur if the mother did not take care of herself while pregnant. The most common birth is natural or vaginal birth. There are three stages when it comes to childbirth: dilation, delivery of the baby, and placenta. Even though childbirth and/or labor may be a beautiful and unforgettable moment, there can be different types of delivery, which can all be determined from the mother’s health during pregnancy. Some deliveries may process smoothly and other may encounter complications; however, all of these aspects and characteristics are what conceives a new human being. It is incredible and unbelievable how labor conveyed every individual to this planet. Childbirth is a beautiful and natural way of human creation and if some mothers had complications during pregnancy that just makes everything and everyone
Ramona T. Mercer is the theorist credited for developing the theory of Maternal Role Attainment, which is also known as the theory of Becoming a Mother. “Maternal role attainment is an interactional and developmental process occurring over time in which a mother becomes attached to her infant, acquires competence in the caretaking tasks involved in the role, and expresses pleasure and gratification in the role (Tomey & Alligood, 2006, p. 608). Mercer’s career has been primarily focused in pediatrics, obstetrics, and maternal-child nursing. Mercer’s greatest accolades have been based on her extensive research on the topic of maternal role and development (Tomey & Alligood, 2006, p. 605).
