Not many know how to achieve success in all categories, but Tina Fey didn’t have any problems figuring that out. Tina fey, television writer, screenwriter, actress, comedian, and mother, has taken the world by storm. Tina Fey has a powerful influence on our world today and she has become a worldwide icon in the eyes of many young women. Tina Fey may have been THE woman to make it stylish to wear glasses in the mid-2000s, but there is more to this multi-talented woman then those trademark black-rimmed spectacles. Tina Fey grew up as a disciplined suburban white girl in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. Fey has never been afraid to use her full potential in any project or job she has worked on. She knows how to rule the workplace in a male dominated world. She also shows young people and even adults, that being different, being true to yourself, and loving yourself isn’t wrong, its beautiful. “Don’t waste your energy trying to educate or change opinions; go over, under, through, and opinions will change organically when you’re the boss. Or they won’t. Who cares? Do your thing, and don’t care if they like it.” (Fey, 145). She understands the struggles of body image and self-acceptance. Fey encourages determination and strong will to follow your path. “So my unsolicited advice to women in the workplace is this: when faced with sexism or ageism or lookism or even really aggressive Buddhism, ask yourself the following question: "Is this person in between me and what I want to do?" If the answer is no, ignore it and move on” (Fey, 144). Fey is also a powerful advocate for the LGBTQ community, she has stated “I’m certainly more open-minded to people’s differences, and it definitely gave me a wider swath of humor styles. I grew up so much in theater, so the gay community has always been a natural part of who I feel like I’m playing to. Tina Fey is more than just a role model to me, she has saved me from a time where nobody could get through to me. I’ve struggled so much over the years with my self-esteem, self-worth, and trying to figure myself out. It was a very dark time in my life, a point that most might call rock bottom, and I was one-hundred percent sure I was stuck there. Then suddenly this woman reached her hand out and pulled me out of the darkness and guided me to self-love. (Figuratively of course). I discovered Tina Fey, and she made me do a full 360 on my life. Fey has showed me how to be comfortable in my own skin. She has taught me that in the world we are in, if you’re a woman don’t let others trick you to make you feel in competition with another woman, you are in competition with everyone. She is not afraid to show the world that a woman can be on top of success in what usually is a man’s profession. She has opened my eyes on my political views today, and has helped guide me to being the proud feminist, democrat, and of course, Trump hater that I am today. She has shown me that taking pride in what you do and not being afraid to be the boss of yourself is not “bitchy” or “overbearing”, it is being a powerful woman. Tina Fey has taught me to love to be a woman and to take delight in voicing my opinions.
