The NFL is the most spoken about sport in the united states. Tim green was part of the Atlanta Falcons for quite some time. Tim green was a star at the defensive end position from 1986 to 1993 this Falcons all-star had 99 tackles at the defensive end position and many more tackles at linebacker, and after his career he chose to be an author, which he had on his mind for a while. The novels Tim writes can relate to young students because of the topic of sports. He makes many books that children as well as teens can relate to. In the book First Team by Tim Green, Mac says to Brock, “First team! That’s what I was saying bro. You and me. Forever. First team!” (Green 327) This shows how Tim’s works can relate young kids because a lot of them participate in sports and a lot of them struggle to start and prove themselves to their coaches. Students should read this book in a high school English classroom because it demonstrates how relationships can be difficult, but teamwork can help to solve many issues. Hutch realized that it would not help his team to continue fighting with Darryl and by being mad at his father. He was able to take those difficult relationships and form them into positive outcomes and achieve his goal. After winning the championship game, “Hutch made his way through his teammates, and up through the stands and did something he had not done in a very long time: Hutch hugged his father. And his father hugged him back” (Lupica 243). This proves to students that if they continue to work hard and focus on a goal, they can achieve it by being a team player on and off the field.
In 1776, David McCullough gives a vivid portrayal of the Continental Army from October 1775 through January 1777, with sharp focus on the leadership of America’s greatest hero, George Washington. A masterful piece of history, 1776 is not a dry retelling of the Revolutionary War, but a compelling character study of George Washington, as well as his key lieutenants, and his British adversaries, the most powerful Army in the 18th Century world. When I read this book, I went from a casual understanding of the hero George Washington to a more specific understanding of why Washington was quite literally the exact right man at the exact right place and time to enable the birth of the United States.
Ted Steinberg’s book American Green gives a detailed description of lawn and its role in America. He gives a history of lawn starting from the origin of the word “lawn” itself in the 16th century and gives wide-ranging anecdotes throughout the book that attempt to show the reader how obsessed Americans are with their lawns. His anecdotes are often meant to represent people all over America, but when you take a step back you realize that they are actually rare stories that provide little broader meaning. Steinberg fails to prove that American’s are obsessed with their lawns because of the poor assumptions he makes and examples he uses.

Kenny Washington became the first African American to ever play in a professional sports league (Amaral). Since he was colored in the 1940 draft class, none of the teams wanted to draft him (Bowen). Even though Kenny was doubted and treated differently than others, he was able to play on a smaller league team near the Pacific coast (Bowen). Then the day finally came when Kenny was allowed to play in the NFL after World War II had ended. This essay will discuss the story of Kenny Washington’s life before he became the first African American football player, what he went through to get there, and why he is important to the NFL.
Months before, a white football fan in a dusty little town watched #35 as he sprinted down the field; the fan did not really see some black kid, they saw a Mojo running back. Just like so many other fans, they cheer for the black and white jersey, not particularly caring about the color of the body it’s on. The fans saw #35 as the future of their much-exalted football team; the color of his skin seemed irrelevant. As long as he wore the jersey and performed every week like he should, they celebrated him as the Great Black Hope of the 1988 season. During his time at the University of Florida, Tim Tebow was known as one of the greatest college football players ever. He won two National Championships and a Heisman trophy, which is the award given to the best player in college football. During this time period in college footbal,l players such as Reggie Bush and others were involved with investigations regarding illegal benefits being given to players by agents and boosters. Needless to say, Tim was never associated or involved in these investigations or crimes.
A soldier’s journey, a trip back home from World War II and a collision with reality is described in the opening of Henry Green’s novel, “Back”. The opening deals with the soldier’s journey, his experience at the warfront, the death of his love, and finally a child who is his own son, the last thing he has of his love. Charley, the soldier is seen reminiscing the moments he had with Rose and his experiences at the battlefield while he walks through the graveyard towards the body of his love. The author conveys a lot more than just what the words say in the first few paragraphs, leaving the reader eager to turn the page as well as giving the reader the freedom to interpret what certain words and sentences mean.
The best authors make an impact on their readers, and John Green is defiantly one of those types of authors. John Green is a New York Times bestselling author. With four books currently published, and a movie coming out in June, he has slowly become one of the most known authors within teenagers today. Aside from being an author, John and his brother created a YouTube channel called vlogbrothers which has recently reached over a million subscribers. He’s also traveled all over the world finding things to write his award winning novels about. John Green is a positive influence for teens because of the topics his books cover, his communication towards teens and how he presents a visual to things some people may not be aware of.
Training camp is a development story, also it is a simple but great book. The only thing is that the language and style of the book is very basic, It is written at a high school level, in my opinion, which makes it a very easy and quick read, it was so easy I read this on my breaks at work. This story is about a guy named Martin Jones, who is a young football player trying to get into an NFL team in one of there training camp. "Making the team is a goal. But striving for greatness is a life mission. There is a difference, and you have to be honest with yourself and you have to be honest with me,” (Gordon 24). It's all going good until disaster strikes and he gets hurt and an injury sidelines him and he has to sit out. This makes him stressed, scared, and uncertain on what to do next. So he goes to went the team trainer and a coach, they have taken him under their care and start to train his mind, which he learns that to be the Best, he has a lot more to learn on and off the field. What he learns from one of the coaches that takes him under his wing, Coach Ken, is to that, a few lessons that he teaches to players so that they can be successful or even be great on and off the field, forever.
