Tiger Woods
What makes golf the phenomenal sport it is today? Is it the game itself? Some say golf started in fifteenth century Scotland by men hitting a pebble with a wooden stick. Currently, graphite drivers routinely send the ball soaring 300 yards. Perhaps it was the golfers who made the game great. Arnold Palmer brought golf to the masses in the 1950’s and Jack Nicklaus has set records that have yet to be broken. However, today sports commentators, pro golfers, and weekend duffers, generally agree the game of golf has been changed forever with the arrival of Tiger Woods.

He ended up needing more surgery for his knee because he ignored his doctor (Tiger Woods. Biography). This stopped him from playing in any more tournaments for the rest of the season. Since he was unable to play for the rest of the season, he realized how much time he would be able to spend with his family and happily took the time off (Tiger Woods. Biography). 6AM. A young man wakes up, showers, and eats breakfast. He then continues to his bedroom, embellishing himself in the simple yet characteristic mixture of white and khaki. He continues to his place of employment, breathing the soft scent of elm and grass. Within the caddie must lay the characteristics of a well-rounded, young adult, embodying the work ethic of those most inspiring before him. On April 21st, 2010, an American golfer whose achievements made him a legend found himself behind a podium, defending his actions in front of a crowd of family, friends, and a public whom he had shocked. In 2009, Tiger Woods experienced the biggest blow to his career in the form of a car crash and infidelity scandal. Not only was he married with two kids, but he was easily identifiable as a positive role model for children across the world. His actions challenged the core of American morals and raised feelings of contempt among the public. These next 14 minutes of speaking in defense would be Tiger’s only chance to set things straight, his only chance to rebuild his life. Over the course of his speech, Tiger utilized the four rhetorical techniques for self-defense as cited by Ware and Linkugel in the article, “They Spoke In Defense Of Themselves: On The Generic Criticism Of Apologia”. By expressing denial, bolstering, differentiation, and transcendence, Tiger made a plea for forgiveness in his Apologia speech.

Tiger Woods undoubtedly has his flaws and has to face the consequences of his actions but I think with the right support system and therapist he can make a complete turnaround. He is oblivious of the correct way someone should love; it should be unconditional and nonjudgmental. I think that if he refuses to seek proper help he will continue down this past of empty, futile sex with an abundant of women. It will be his demise. I hope that he can find his way to self-actualization where he can learn to grow and be happy.

Ding! The solid thump of a club hitting a golf ball is a wonderful yet soothing sound. Would this even be a sound that golf enthusiasts enjoy without some of golf’s biggest legends? The game of golf is getting stronger and part of that reason is because of some major golf legends. “Youth playing the game has increased by 20% from 2.5 million in 2010 to 3 million in 2015,”(Heitner). Some of golf’s major legends are Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Gary Player. Along with these golf legends there are some golfers today making a name for themselves. Some of these golfers include, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, and Jason Day. All of these golfers might be from different times, but they all play/played the same game we all know and
