Thesis: Professional golfer Tiger Woods is a modern-day tragic hero because his flaw of excessive pride directly led to the destruction of both his personal relationships and his professional career. Tiger took complete responsibility for his actions, but it came too late and by then he ended up suffering consequences that were excessive compared to his errors.

One reason why Tiger Woods could be characterized as a modern day tragic hero is because he demonstrates the tragic flaw of excessive pride in the way he felt he was superior to be committed to just his own wife. For example, one source notes multiple women have claimed to have affairs with Tiger while he was married and had two kids. According to the author, "In [2009], Woods's reputation as a faithful husband, an apostle of discipline and an upstanding citizen of his sport has blown apart amid tabloid reports of serial infidelity -- touched off last week by a bizarre, low-speed car crash outside Woods's mini-estate in Windermere, Fla. As of this writing, nine women had been identified as his sexual partners past and present, and the story careens onward, jet-fuelled by gossip blogs and the websites of mainstream media" (Gillis and JohnKingston). Tiger Woods’s decision to cheat on his wife in the first place shows that he feels his fame should exempt him from being faithful to his wife. He believed if he was the “great Tiger Woods,” then he shouldn’t be limited to one woman. Also Woods did not think about anyone but himself when he cheated on his wife, he thought he could do whatever he pleased. Tiger Wood’s life stands as an example for people to learn that no matter how great one person might be, one mistake may change their entire life around.
