Tiffany Boren Sociology February 4, 2018 Module 7 Assignment Thomas Theorem The Thomas Theorem is a theory of sociology which was formulated in 1928 by W. I. Thomas and D. S. Thomas (wikipedia, ). Their theory states that interpretation of a situation causes the action, meaning if people define the situation real then the consequences are real for that situation. In short, humans define and respond to situations as a result of their own experiences and thereby create the consequences that they expect. This interpretation is not objective and the actions are affected by subjective perceptions of the situation (Volkert, 1951). Whether there is even an objectively correct interpretation is not important for the purposes of helping guide individuals' behavior. In 1923, Thomas stated more precisely that any definition of a situation will influence the present. Not only that, but after a series of …show more content…

Humans generally hold a cynical perception of ants carrying some dust and crawling on a negligible distance in a courtyard. However, that is one small task for an insect, but one giant leap for the building of the nest. Like social insects, men working together sets up a whole fascinating mechanism. Everyone plays a role in the global society, and one citizen is not microscopic among billion others, as it may be thought. To reinforce that theory, the persuasive essay entitled “On Societies as Organisms”, written by Lewis Thomas, argues that human societies have much to learn from the communal accomplishments of other life forms. Using various rhetorical patterns, such as analogy, enumeration of processes and figurative language, the author

Delirium is a cognitive disorder that alters the patients’ level of consciousness, generally as an acute onset, impairs memory, fluctuations in behavior, produces disorganized thinking, and perceptual disturbances such as hallucinations (Downing, Caprio & Lyness, 2013). In order to diagnose and monitor Delirium a confusion assessment method (CAM) is used to measure the symptoms of ...
The Transcendental Deductions of the pure concept of the understanding in Immanuel Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason, in its most general sense, explains how concepts relate a priori to objects in virtue of the fact that the power of knowing an object through representations is known as understanding. According to Kant, the foundation of all knowledge is the self, our own consciousness, because without the self, experience is not possible. The purpose of this essay is to lay out Kant’s deduction of the pure concept of understanding and show how our concepts are not just empirical, but a priori concept. We will walk through Kant’s argument and reasoning as he uncovers each layer of understanding, eventually leading up to the conclusion mentioned above. In the Transcendental aesthetics, Kant defines the objective validity of Space and Time as concepts a priori with the help of Geometry, showing that if we believe in the validity of Geometry, we have to believe that Space and Time are concepts a priori.

Berger and Thomas Luckmann exposed in their Social Construction of Reality in 1966, the relationships between structure and agency as a debate. Society creates the people who make society gradually forming a continuous cycle. James Samuel Coleman from the Coleman boat gives a link about macro-sociological phenomena and their individual behavior. A macro-level phenomenon is known as establishing certain actions by individuals, this resulted in an eventual macro-level phenomenon. When he mentioned Individual action it was taken as a reference to a macro-sociological structure, and this particular action done by many individuals resulted as a modification to that macro structure.
